This is becoming typical of the Dems, especially on the heels of Senator Dick Durbin’s recent comments. Last Thursday some House Democrats led by Rep. John Conyers Jr. (D-MI) held a mock impeachment inquiry over the war in Iraq. You know, after having solved all other problems plaguing congress. C-SPAN even indulged this little fantasy. This was all instigated by the so-called “Downing Street Memo” which allegedly states that the Bush administration had plans in the summer of 2002 to invade Iraq. So what if they did? The Dems had 8 years to do something about Iraq and they just sat on their hands. I wonder how many people were raped, tortured, and killed in those 8 years in Iraq? ANd tell me this isn’t a partisan witch hunt. Listen to one of their “witnesses”…
The session took an awkward turn when witness Ray McGovern, a former intelligence analyst, declared that the United States went to war in Iraq for oil, Israel and military bases craved by administration “neocons” so “the United States and Israel could dominate that part of the world.” He said that Israel should not be considered an ally and that Bush was doing the bidding of Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon.
“Israel is not allowed to be brought up in polite conversation,” McGovern said. “The last time I did this, the previous director of Central Intelligence called me anti-Semitic.”
Rep. James P. Moran Jr. (D-Va.), who prompted the question by wondering whether the true war motive was Iraq’s threat to Israel, thanked McGovern for his “candid answer.”
There’s Tin Foil Hat #1.
Now check out what kind of crowd this farce attracted…
At Democratic headquarters, where an overflow crowd watched the hearing on television, activists handed out documents repeating two accusations — that an Israeli company had warning of the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks and that there was an “insider trading scam” on 9/11 — that previously has been used to suggest Israel was behind the attacks.
There’s Tin Foil Hat #2.
Early in the hearing, somebody accidentally turned off the lights; later, a witness knocked down a flag. Matters were even worse at Democratic headquarters, where the C-SPAN feed ended after just an hour, causing the activists to groan and one to shout “Conspiracy!”
And there’s the Tin Foil Trifecta.
The event (*cough*travesty*cough*) was sponsored by Democrats.com. This is what they were busy doing at the event…
The event organizer, Democrats.com, distributed stickers saying “Bush lied/100,000 people died.” One man’s T-shirt proclaimed, “Whether you like Bush or not, he’s still an incompetent liar,” while a large poster of Uncle Sam announced: “Got kids? I want yours for cannon fodder.”
Is this what the party of Roosevelt and Kennedy has become? A group of conspiracy minded anti-Semitic wingnuts? Normally I would say they were just a loud minority but when the two people leading the party are Howard Dean and Dick Durbin it’s hard to believe it’s just a vocal minority.
And Democrats.com called the whole shebang “Amazing, Unforgettable, and Powerful”. The words they left out are seditious, intolerant, and insane.
