More on the Gulf Shores High Plot

Teens charged with planning school attack:

We have more news out of Gulf Shores High in Alabama. I originally thought that this was just another threat but it seems there may be more to it than that. More on that a little later.

First we have a name of one of the suspects. He is 16-year-old Joseph Scott Meredith. He is being charged as an adult for conspiracy to commit murder…

Under state law, teens 16 years or older can be treated as adults when charged with Class A felonies, such as conspiracy to commit murder.

The other student, a 15-year-old, is remaining unnamed due to his juvenile status. That’s not keeping his lawyer from talking though…

Pascal Bruijn, the Fairhope-based lawyer for the younger teen, has said that though his client made “inappropriate statements” that he now knows should not have been made, he is not a threat to anyone.

Mr. Brujin also left me a comment claiming that information printed in the original article by the Associated Press was incorrect on some points.

Now on to the plot. Originally it was reported that one of students spoke of killing classmates on, of course, April 20th. According to Baldwin County District Attorney David Whetstone there was more to it than that…

The alleged threat to kill classmates was “more than the mere chatter of children,” Whetstone said. “This had some substance, some meat to it, some plans to it and at least one overt step toward completion.”

Whatever that overt step was it has yet to be revealed.

This is the MySpace account for Joe Meredith. Well, at least A Joe Meredith who happens to attend Gulf Shores High. If this is in fact his MySpace then I can already see a possible defense. Joe Meredith made a homemade slasher movie called “Grisly Underground”. Could it be that other students and law enforcement mistook his film making ideas as a possible plot against his school? We’ll just have to wait and see.

    The actions of others in response are the problem at hand, to want to violently act out is the very reason these boys are locked up. To say they shouldn’t be allowed back at school or to go to their homes and beat them up as one said makes you just as bad as they are. It’s the fear of what they could have done that gears these response. They have been caught and stopped no true crime has taken place so the extreme actions and out burst of others are uncalled for. I am neither for nor against what I have seen and heard for the most part, it’s because this is not my problem and no longer the problems of others. This is a time for the family and the 2 boys to seek out help and treatment, allow the authorities to take care of this for they know a lot more than what is being leaked out on the news. Simple put — Calm your ass down and just let it go, it’s not worth troubling your self with the actions of others. If you care that much then look around, everywhere has similar problems this is only 1 of many. The better solution is to control and to teach control to others so things like this will not manifest, to act or to harm will only fuel the problem.

    well CHANCE, how about you wake up every day and go to a school now surrounded my media and security. these boys wanted to MURDRER many innocent people. No one did anything to them. I mean, Ray just won our high school talent show for his magic tricks, if anything, they were welcomed. If you think they should be un punished or allowed even NEAR campus you are about as insane as they are. I go to school now in fear. And what if no one came forward. I could soon be dead.

    I know Joe Meredith personally, and I think he’s a victim in this case because of his attitude and personality. I don’t think he really wanted to murder anyone. He’s big on films and such, which you can see from his MySpace, and what I have HEARD was that he was planning to make a movie about a school shooting, which sounds about like something he would do. I think it was a rather stupid thing for him to do, but I don’t think his intentions were what everyone makes them out to be.

    I am not saying let them go unpunished, but I am saying the punishment is not in the hands of the public but that of the law. This is an issue that must be dealt with but your fears and emotions should not press you into actions that are just as bad. Would you like for me to pity you or feel bad that you are hurting??? Why! Because of something that could have happened??? And what then will you or your friends think if this wasn’t what it appears, what if this was just your generation acting like the idiots they are. These boys could as well just be doing a stupid stunt with no intent of ever harming anyone… then what… can you let them back, can you overlook a mistake? Or will they be met with violence? But each person has the right to live, but as well take responsibility for their actions. If these boys are GUILTY then lock up, strap down, house arrest or what ever is the action needed that is decided by the courts not you. If INNOCENT then what? 7 years ago I was in the middle of 2 school out burst such as this and I saw how INNOCENT or GUILTY was never the case and I dealt with not fear of the what ifs but the FACT of knowing and not being cared or heard. People want to compare this to Columbine, well fuck them this is no Columbine, this isn’t the death of many and the day after wondering how to go on, this is just a SCARE, a could have but wasn’t. But you want to know what to really fear… not taking my advice, you will see if not already people being associated to those boys being bullied and beaten for nothing, you will see dumbasses who want to copycat the idea because of the attention it will bring. You will see REAL problems and not just petty threats… I am sorry that you are in fear and I know that my words seem harsh or unrealistic but you do what you have to, to calm down as long as it does not deal with acting out in other CRIMES. And if those boys are cleared of any wrong doing, then look at their actions as stupidity but don’t jump to the conclusion that they are about to end your life. If they are cleared can you return to your stress free life? – Your school’s 15 mins of fame is almost over..

    I know that no one said anything to that last statement but I just wanted to add. A simple way of looking at it, to JUDGE right or wrong is for the court to decide not us. And to act out in criminal behaviors is not right nor justify. I don’t want to see people making bad mistakes from what they heard or thought, even if worse came to worse I don’t want to see people over stepping their place to lash out to give their own sense of justice. And furthermore I don’t want to see people become bias and IF the situation turns out that they are innocent that people feel that they are still guilty because of the views formed during this time. —- When falsely accused of a crime, because of others even the innocent has to live as the guilty. —- so does anyone really have a problem with me saying think out you views calm down so you don’t jump to any extremes and don’t take part in crimes. —– Because call me crazy but I thought that’s consider reasonable and understanding. But hell, its just advice, take it or leave it.

    you guys..i know joe really well actually…he has had a bad life..horror films and so forth facinate him..and there is nothing wrong with that at all..i’ve seen his film like 3 times and it is just a short splatter film..nothing in it is threating anyone at GSHS…you guys should get to know the person instead of judging him on what other people had said or by what you have heard…i know he wouldn’t kill anyone for no reason..and rey likes shock value.he also has a BIG problem with lying..if you haven’t noticed..he likes to shock people..and this did…i honestly believe nothing is or ever was going to happen…and people..STOP SPREADING CRAP YOU HAVE NO IDEA ABOUT!!!!

    Hey, I knew JoJo Meredtih. I grew up with him from preschool. He was always a good kid but he was always into making movies. Even back in elementry school he talked about it… only then he was more interested in Aliens. He was always so sweet… My guess is that he fell into the wrong crowd and his movie making abilities went a little to far. I will always have faith that he might once again become the good kid i once knew. I Still Have faith!!!!!

    Movie! Movie! It was a bloody movie! Are the courts not going to take into consideration the fact that the boy has other somewhat morbid independents? Are the courts also not going to take into consideration the fact that they kids who claim to feel threatened by him are taughnting him, calling him a freak, and saying they’re going to “beat the shit out of both of them?” That doesn’t sound to be the words of someone who feels as though they are in immediate danger to me. I know Joe, and after hearing of Ray’s interest in magic tricks- I’ve come to the conclusion that I’ve met this kid, too. I may not have known them my entire life, but I do know them well enough to know that this is all a huge misunderstanding. Everyone who knows anything about them knows that they are INNOCENT. These kids have potential, I don’t want to see them thrown away because some redneck punks piss and moan about them being different.

    It is people like you describe who end up killing someone. Exactly because they have not had a good life and they need attention. You yourself mention how they like to shock. Well, guess what? After a while the shock value escalates and they may actually end up killing someone. Am I saying they would have? No, the fact is we will never know. Should we say they are innocent because we don’t know? No, because then someone may get hurt in the future. I guess the best we can do is let the system take care of them. The system is not always right, but I guess it is the best we have. However, I think it is pathetic that some attention hungry freak has managed to make a whole town feel unsafe and afraid. These kids should get a life and pour all their resentment towards life into something positive.

    OMG some of the things ya’ll have said is rediculus, you don’t threaten to shoot up a school, and then when you get punished for it, say it was a joke. Now we don’t know that he was kidding or that it was serious, the only people that know that are those two young boys. But i personnaly don’t want to sit around and find out.     These kids are innocent. Now their childhoods are ruined. One under house arrest and going to have to deal with the snails pace of the adult judicial system. The other is sleeping on a concrete slab with a 1? foam mattress. Locked up. 15. Away from his family. There is NO evidence. What is this stupid shit about taking evacuation plans? These are GIVEN to EVERY STUDENT at the begining of school in the handbook. DUH? And I think the kids know which door they entered that morning to find their way out….I know these kids. They are smart, funny, kind, generous. Not an evil bone exists. Joe writes screenplays for movies. Horror movies. Hate to see what they would have done with M. Knight Shamalyn’s computer. Yes,he has an imagination. He has been creating movies since he was 8. The 15 yr old is a magician. And a good one. He wants to be a Lawyer one day. Boy, does he have experience with the unjust legal system to draw from. These are kids with long range plans. Not the Dylan and Eric with NO plans for the future.
    They wouldn’t sacrafice their future, nor would they hurt a living soul.
    And honestly, did Dylan and Eric ever go to school and say, ‘We are going to shoot you all’?

    There have over 40 school shootings since 1995. All were known as nice kids. There have been 17 kids arrested in the last 4 weeks in the U.S. and charged with terrorest crimes, all most likely nice kids in their small town. No one has seen the evidence and the police are not going to let us see it until there is a trial. But while we wait I am glad our community did not take a chance on these nice boys.

    In all those other arrests police said what evidence led to the arrest. In Gulf Shores the authorities were eerily quiet until they got a “confession” out of the 15-year-old.

And before I called him, I called the minor who was a good friend of mine. He told me what had happend. So it’s not like I heard this from a kid. I heard what happend from Joe. And he’s the most truthful, carring, mellow, laid back guy I have ever met. Ask any of his friends. They will tell you the same. So NOTHING is wrong with him. NO threats. AND FREE JOE!

If your friend is in trouble and you believe he is innocent, post some information on him to show him some support. What is it that you think Joe has been accused of? Have you read the whole story??
    You say you admit that your friend has done a very bad thing, but I have 100% faith in Joe Meredith. He was a victim in this situation, and I can promise my life on that one.

    In response I would like to say that I honestly don’t believe that Joe had a problem with the people at GSHS. I can’t speak for the other guy in question, but I know for a fact that Joe loved GSHS. As far as the kids at Gulf Shores liking him, I don’t know, but I know he had no complaints. If anyone had a problem with him, he didn’t let it bother him. He has been taught to be an individual, but a good person, and if someone judges him, he should let it roll off his shoulder and move on. Judgemental people are not worth crying over. The local newspaper even printed a statement about him not getting along with the students at Gulf Shores. Well, that’s bullshit. He had plenty of friends there and I never heard him complain about anyone while attending school there. I have to agree with Trench! It’s just a common excuse people use for reasons why these situations occur. People have to have some lame excuse for everything these days. :roll:
