Correctional guards fired for inappropriate MySpace use

Officers Lose Jobs After Contacting Teen Using MySpace:
Two correctional officers at Medina County Juvenile Detention Center in Ohio were fired for using a MySpace account to contact a teenage girl that was housed in the facility. John Stone and Anthony Berrios used the MySpace account while on the job to communicate with the girl. The girl told a teacher who it turn told county authorities. Allegedly there were no communications or contact that took place outside of the facility. The county is weighing the decision to file criminal charges.

Now for all we know the guards could have been legitimately trying to help the girl but this story just has a creepiness factor that can’t be ignored.

No MySpace linky goodness since technically they haven’t broken the law yet.

Hmm while I can see the issue w/ theres always the possibility that it was innocent chat. Ive maintained contact w/ several past students both male and female via myspace. However if this student felt the need to tell a teacher theres probably more to the story.

The girl may have told the teacher simply because she wanted to get the officers in trouble…these kids don’t end up where they are because of their outstanding affinity for honesty or warm regard for their fellow man you know…

On the other side of the coin… Trech, you put up myspace accounts for several people that have not been convicted by any court. Technically those people have not “broken the law” either as they have not been proven guilty yet. I don’t buy your reason for not posting these officer’s myspace accounts. Post them all, or don’t post them at all, but don’t make up BS excuses when law enforcement officers are the ones who are apparently at fault. I mean, your website is all about “believe-everything-you-read-in-the-paper, jump-to-conclusions, ‘justice’” Why shirk that proud tradition now? :)

they were housed in the facility – this was a young girl in the juvenile detention centre being corresponded to by guards at the same centre.

why would they need to use myspace to speak to this girl when they were probably in the same building……doesn’t seem innocent to me

    Hello:

The girl can easily have deleted them as friends, and changed her profile to private if she felt she was being harrassed.

My feeling is the same as above, she did it to get someone in trouble, so she can feel better about herself.
