Accused teacher still posting on MySpace

Teacher due in court still using MySpace site:
A teacher from Rialto High School in San Bernadino, California is still using his MySpace to communicate with students even though he’s facing criminal charges. 31-year-old Matthew Cepican was found with a 16-year-old student from Rialto High in his car in what the article describes as a remote area. He’s been charged with suspicion of committing lewd or lascivious acts with a minor. Age of consent in California is 18.

Meanwhile, Cepican has continued to post on MySpace.com, a popular online networking site, and former and current students have sent him messages of support.

On March 3, an 18-year-old man from Rialto who said he didn’t care what was said about his teacher posted this message: “sup mr.C & you still the downest teacher i had & .”

High school students said that Cepican was popular, laid back, young and hip and that they could use slang with him.

In a blog dated March 20, Cepican wrote, “I miss you all more than I can say. You got me through the toughest years of my life and owe all my dreams and success to you.

“My greatest reward ain’t some stupid recognition from my peers. My greatest reward is your love and respect. I will never forget you … .”

Thank God he’s not the English teacher.

Speaking of cyberstalking

Because we were you know…

Students arrested for creating fake myspace page:
Two more teens have been arrested for cyberstalking, this time in Louisiana. 17-year old Kerry Garland and 18-year old Jerett Crumbley created fake MySpaces of their principal and assistant principal.

Investigators say the two created the fake pages which allowed for inappropriate images and messages. Authorities say the cyber-stalking charges applies because the victims were being harrassed and had no control of what was being posted.

Teens filmed rape

Austria

Police: Teens Used Mobile Phone to Film Rape of 12-Year-Old Girl:

Reason to Blow Up the World:â?¦

VIENNA, Austria â?? Three teenage boys took turns raping a 12-year-old girl, filmed the assault with a mobile phone camera and showed the video to classmates, Austrian authorities said Friday.

Police said the rape happened after a birthday party in Freistadt in the province of Upper Austria, and that the girl was assaulted after she became intoxicated and fell asleep. It was not immediately clear when the crime occurred.

Investigators detained the three boys, ages 13, 15, and 16, after they showed a clip of the rape to classmates at school and a student who saw it alerted authorities, police said.

The two older suspects would be formally charged in juvenile court with sexual abuse, officials said. They said the youngest could not be held criminally responsible.

So much Doom in this one.

Fake MySpaces net cyberstalking charges

Students charged with cyber stalking:
We have another MySpace related story that happened in my back yard. Two students from Mooresville High School in North Carolina were arrested for misdemeanor cyberstalking after creating fake MySpaces of their assistant principals.

They portrayed one of the administrators as a pedophile, police said. They also used racist words.

Police were able to trace the MySpaces back to the suspects.

Remember kids, nothing is private on the internet.

No cameras during Fechteler trial

Judge rejects cameras for school violence case:

The Associate Press and other media outlets had made requests to the court to allow cameras into the proceedings for Frank Fechteler. Fechteler is accused of being in possession of bombs and plotting a school shooting at Newington High School in Connecticut. For once a judge has some sense beacuse he denied the media’s request.

Judge Patrick J. Clifford denied the motion Wednesday, stating that although the court is open to the public, he did not feel the cameras should be present.

“I don’t think it’s appropriate,” he said.

I don’t know why the media is so excited about this case. They usually reserve this kind of enthusiasm for celebrities or guys who kill their wives.

Children beat infant

Nebraska

Parents: Children Beat Up Infant:

Reason to Blow Up the World:â?¦

OMAHA, Neb. — The parents of a 9-week-old baby have lost custody of the infant after the child was allegedly beaten by other kids in the home of her babysitter.

Court documents suggest Naveena Jenkins was thrown, hit and kicked by children in the home of two people who were supposed to be caring for her on Sunday night.

“I asked Destini if she could watch my baby, and she said ‘yes’,” said 18-year-old Sara Vasquez, the infant’s mother.

Destini Phillips and Corneiliou Thomas have each been booked on seven counts of misdemeanor child neglect. They were apparently sleeping when the other children in the home injured the baby.

Vasquez said she left the infant with the couple for just an hour. When she returned, the child was in distress.

“I see the baby, she has no clothes on, no diaper, she’s soaking wet. She has a little bit of blood running down her face,” Vasquez said. The baby has a skull fracture, cuts and bruising. Police said other children at the home caused the injuries while the caregivers were asleep.

Police reports said six children under age 5 were in the home along with the infant. A 5-year-old girl is believed to have caused most of the injuries. She was able to detail her account of the events to counselors at Omaha’s Project Harmony.

Yet the parents of the victim have their baby taken away? As usual Social Services or whatever it’s called in Nebraska have dropped the ball.

Kentucky crime spree posted on YouTube

YouTube video leads to arrest of Pike teen:
Jessica brings us more malcontents from the Bluegrass State. This time it’s 18-year-old Charles Jeremy Brown from Belfry, Kentucky. He was arrested on charges of 27 counts of menacing, eight counts of criminal mischief and one count of criminal littering. Police found the evideence of his crimes posted on YouTube. In the 3 pages of videos one can find Mr. Brown breaking church windows, vandalizing grocery stores and menacing drive-through restaurant workers. Thanks to Jessica we have not one but two MySpaces for him.

So, in honor of having the most well documented crime spree ever you Charles Jeremy Brown have been awarded the Red Forman Dumbass Award.

Red’s foot would menace your ass.

Game consoles for graffiti tips

In a rather unusual story, police in Garner, North Carolina, are offering $500, an Xbox (the article doesn’t say, but I’m assuming a 360), a Playstation 3, or a Wii for anyone that provides information that leads to the arrest and prosecution of the person(s) responsible for several recent instances of graffiti.

“We believe the offenders, as well as those who may know about the crimes, are young people in our area,” Garner police Chief Tom Moss said. “We hope this kind of reward motivates them to provide us with information we need to prosecute the offenders.

I’ll admit, it’s good thinking. Although most young people are going to realize you could take the $500 and buy a Wii and several games. But hey, it’s a start. And it’s certainly better than placing the blame on graffiti, say, somewhere it doesn’t belong.

This also comes on the heels of a similar measure in Mexico City where police are offering computers and games in exchange for guns.

Who knows? Perhaps we’re seeing a new trend of using enthusiasm for games to prevent crime, rather than as a scapegoat for it. One can hope.

Student gets boot camp for spiking water with acid

Student Pleads Guilty to Putting Acid in Teacher’s Water:

Back in January I posted about Zachary Midgette. He’s the student from Cary High School in North Carolina who was arrested for putting hydrochloric acid in his teacher’s water. He pleaded guilty to assault on a government official. In exchange for his plea he was sentenced to a boot camp program. If he doesn’t complete the program he could be sentenced to 150 days in jail.

Again I don’t understand how putting hydrochloric acid in a teacher’s drink is not attempted murder.

Serial Baby Dumper

California

Police: Who dumped 3 newborns, 11 months apart?:

Reason to Blow Up the World:â?¦

OROSI, California (AP) — The first newborn was discovered swaddled in a blanket on a park bench, an umbilical cord still hanging from his tiny body. Then, at neat 11-month intervals, two more abandoned babies were found in parked pickup trucks in the same neighborhood.

This week, DNA tests established all three babies were almost certainly born to the same mother.

Now, in a heartbreaking mystery that has transfixed this central California farm community of 7,300, investigators are trying to find the mother and figure out what drove her to such desperate lengths.

All three newborns were found within a two-block radius. The first two — a boy and a girl — survived and are now wards of the state.

The third baby was found dead of exposure on the cold night of December 3. She was enveloped in a sweatshirt in the bed of a pickup parked near the high school, some 60 miles southeast of Fresno. The coroner concluded she was alive for less than a day.

California has had safe haven laws since 2001. Are they that unknown?
