Deaths in Texas mobile home

Texas

Police: 4 dead in mobile home, hanging infant still alive:

A relative found the bodies of a 23-year-old woman and her four small daughters hanging in a closet in their mobile home Tuesday morning, all of them dead but an 8-month-old, who was taken to a hospital, the sheriff said.

The woman’s sister, who also lived in the Oak Hills mobile home park, about 25 miles west of Fort Worth, found the bodies, Parker County Sheriff Larry Fowler said.

He said the dead children were ages 5, 3 and 2.

This story is ongoing.

How old is too old?

Joystiq has a great article entitled How old is too old for game blame?, which basically asks how old does someone have to be before violent videogames are not blamed for their crimes. It’s an excellent post. I urge you to check it out.

No safety for Golden

Sheriff Cannot Guarantee Jonesboro Shooter Andrew Golden’s Safety:

The Sheriff who represents the same county where Jonesboro shooter Andre Golden used to live says he can’t guarantee Golden’s safety if he returns to Arkansas.

Craighead County Sheriff Jack McCann said hostility toward Golden and accomplice Mitchell Johnson still remains nine years after they opened fire on those fleeing Jonesboro Westside Middle School during a fake fire drill. The shootings were on people’s minds again Friday, as Golden turned 21 and likely left federal custody a free man for the first time.

“It’s a concern because there’s still a lot of hostility towards him and Mitchell Johnson,” said McCann, who was the county’s chief deputy in 1998. “I really don’t think any of the family members would do something to them; I think somebody out here would want to do something for the notoriety.”

Did the sheriff just serve a warning or declare open season?

MySpace threat at NC high school

MySpace Threat Sends Officials to Vance High School:
Class was in session yesterday for Southern Vance County (NC) High School despite the fact that it was Memorial Day. Obviously that didn’t sit well with someone as they posted a threat against the school on MySpace. No weapon was found at the school but that didn’t stop the rumor mill from running at full swing…

As the day went on, cell phones started relaying the message. Word reached parents who started picking up their children. This as Sheriff’s deputies searched for any sign of a weapon.

Some parents are criticizing the school for the fact that there wasn’t a lockdown…

Parent, Rev. John Miles isn’t convinced this was a prank. “The Sheriff hasn’t found no gun in school. But what happened was the school did not get locked down. If the school was locked down you maybe could’ve found that gun. But the school didn’t get locked down so you don’t know if it was a gun there or not. Because people came in and out and got their child,” Miles said.

No arrests have been made as of yet.

Was Jordan Manners’ death an accident?

Friend Claims Manners’ Killing Was “Tragic Accident”:

An acquaintance of those involved in the shooting death of Jordan Manners says that the shooting may have been an accident…

The acquaintance, who fears being identified, was not there when the shooting took place, but claims to have spoken directly to those who were and says it was all a terrible mishap. “A couple of the boys were in the bathroom,” he reveals. “They’re all friends, and they were fooling around with the gun. One of them said, “Do you want to know what a real firecracker feels like?” And he placed it on Jordan’s chest and it went off by accident.”

One of the original theories for motive was that this was a retaliation for a prank involving a firecracker the day before and recently it was announced that Manners and his assailants were friends.

If this is true I expect the school, C.W. Jeffreys Collegiate Institute, will come under fire for allowing a gun onto its premises.

Myspace hysteria

MySpace hysteria lets politicians off easy:
This is a great editorial from New England journalist Chris Powell about the recent controversy surrounding MySpace and state attorney generals. He says what I’ve been saying for a while now…

But the politicians might as well seek to outlaw telephones, cars and roads, earlier innovations of “social networking,” which these days is, after all, often just a polite term for sexual solicitation, what with so many adolescents flaunting themselves on the Internet. And it all is happening right under the noses of parents.

Or it would be happening under their noses if half the children in the country had parents. This is the real problem, but it cannot be discussed by the politicians campaigning against MySpace. For then they would have to condemn their own constituents.

I couldn’t have said it better myself.

2nd suspect in Jordan Manners’ murder turns himself in

Teens charged in boy’s slaying:

The second suspect in the school shooting death of Jordan manners has turned himself in but that’s not the big story. The big story is that both suspects had the audacity to attend memorial barbecue for Manners and give condolences to Jordan Manners’ mother…

The teens were among the more than 1,000 people who attended a Saturday memorial barbecue for Manners, who died of a gunshot wound to the chest.

Word of the charges stunned area residents.

“(One suspect) just had a baby girl about a week ago,” said one teen.

“The day it happened they (the suspects) went to the mother to pass condolences.

Not only that but they are said to be best friends of Jordan…

One teen “is Jordan’s best friend,” said Marcia Campbell, whose home was raided by police. Officers found the suspect asleep in the home.

He is a friend of Jordan’s and her son, Jabarie, 16, she said.

“They’re all friends,” she said. “Jordan was here two weeks ago.”

The suspect, Campbell said, told her he was the only one who stayed with Jordan after he was shot and tried to revive him.

Sorry but friends don’t shoot each other in the chest.

Arrest made in Jordan Manners’ murder, other suspect sought

One charged, one sought in school shooting:

An arrest has been made in the shooting death of Jordan Manners at the C.W. Jefferys Collegiate Institute in Toronto. A 17-year-old has been arrested in connection with the shooting but can’t be named due to Canada’s Youth Criminal Justice Act. However another suspect has been named due to the fact that he is still at large. Police are currently searching for 17-year-old Collins Poku Duah. He is considered armed and dangerous.

More information will be released at a police press conference tomorrow.

Three attacked in botched home invasion

Apparently, we were overdue.

According to sheriff’s office spokesman Kraig Troxell, deputies were called to a Hedgerow Terrace home shortly after noon after two occupants reported they were awakened by two men entering a townhouse. The victims were assaulted with a small firearm. A third victim knocked on the door of the residence and got into an altercation with one of the men. All three victims had minor injuries, but declined medical treatment.

They don’t go into any more details on the nature of the injuries, but since they declined medical treatment I have to assume they were really minor. Probably clubbed with the weapon, rather than shot.

Anyway, since you’re reading this here…

Troxell said the suspects left the residence with cash, a video game system and an MP3 player. The game system and MP3 player were later found outside the home.

Hopefully with fingerprints a’plenty.
