Boy faces Friday detention hearing in Pa. school attack:
The 13-year-old responsible for the knife attack at Antietam Middle-Senior High School is facing charges of recklessly endangering another person, causing and risking a catastrophe, criminal intent to commit criminal mischief and possession of a weapon on school property. As of right now he’s still being held as a juvenile but will be in court today for a detention hearing.
One of the victim’s mother has gone all Helen Lovejoy on us…
Some parents urged district officials at a packed meeting Thursday night to put more police in the schools in response to the attack. More than 200 parents, students and others attended.
But others, including Joellen Schmitz, the mother of a 14-year-old who was stabbed, said the district should hire more counselors to help students in trouble.
Rather than being angry at the boy accused of the attack, Schmitz said she was frustrated with school officials who failed to see how troubled he was. “I feel bad for him and his family,” Schmitz said.
While I think that adding more police is just closing the barn door after the horses got out, when exactly did it become the school’s responsibility to be parents to these precious little sociopaths?
