This day in history: Brenda Spencer

Pat from BelchSpeak was kind enough to send me this link to let me know that 29 years ago today was when Brenda Spencer opened fire on a San Diego elementary school that was across the street from her house. She ended up killing two and wounding nine.

Pat asked me whatever became of her and I directed him to this post from 3 years ago when she was last denied parole.

Pat, in his usual manner, replied…

What? she hasn’t been released yet because she was a child at the time of the shooting and there is not a shred of DNA evidence that says she did it??

Epic.

That’s the difference between now and then. Then there was no debate on what to do with a 16-year-old murderer. She was sentenced to life.

craigslist hitman seeker has done this before

‘Hitman’ woman had previous trouble:

Our favorite hitman seeking craigslist user has been in this kind of trouble before. Ann Marie Linscott has had previous trouble when it comes to men. Back in the 90′s it seems that she couldn’t keep her mitts off of a co-worker. It got so bad that the object of her affection had to take two restraining orders out on her. While married even back then she would send her co-worker flowers, send him love notes, and make physical advances on him. How would you like to see that coming at you? Anyway she became so obsessed that she would lurk around the guy’s house and spy on his wife.

So I guess hiring a hitman on craigslist doesn’t seem like much of a stretch for Ms. Linscott.

Thanks to Soobs for the tip.

Johnson convicted

Federal court jury convicts Jonesboro school shooter:

Mitchell Johnson was convicted today on federal weapons charges. The best part is that the prosecution didn’t even bring up Jonesboro to do it.

Government lawyers did not bring up Johnson’s violent past. The only clue during the two-day trial came during jury selection, when potential panelists were asked one-by-one whether Johnson’s name sounded familiar.

The husband and son of one of his victims attended the trial…

Mitch Wright, the widower of a teacher killed March 25, 1998, watched Tuesday’s court session along with his son Zane, who was 2 at the time of the shootings and is now 12. Wright said the boy “wanted to see what this person looked like.”

Johnson will be sentenced within the next 45 days. He’s looking at a 10 year maximum.

Fake Bebo profile causes suicide attempt

bebo logoBebo cyber-bully faces jail after tricking friend into falling in love with fake profile:
In the vein of the Megan Meier tragedy a 17-year-old boy from the UK is under arrest after causing his friend to attempt suicide via Bebo. Bebo is a social site along the lines of MySpace that is very popular in the UK.

The 17-year-old created a fake identity on Bebo and pretended to be a admirer of his 16-year-old friend. This ruse went on for 3 months until the boy sent an e-mail from his real e-mail address still pretending to be the admirer.

The younger boy was hospitalised after overdosing on 30 paracetamol, 15 Buscopan and 15 ibuprofen tablets when he discovered his friend was behind the faux Bebo profile he had been emailing for three months.

The 17-year-old has pleaded guilty to harassment charges and will be sentenced next month.

UK father beaten to death over football

England

Man ‘beaten and stabbed to death in row with neighbours over son’s football’:

Reason to Blow Up the World

David Martin, 40, was attacked with weapons believed to include a golf club and hatchet after trying to retrieve his 10-year-old son Jamie’s football from a neighbour’s garden.

The father-of-three lay dying in front of Jamie, his wife Angela, and their 12-year-old daughter Samantha, in Rutter Gardens, Mitcham.

In 1986, Mr Martin’s father Raymond, 49, was murdered trying to save David.

He was beaten to death outside a pub near the family home in Mitcham by a gang of youths. One neighbour said: “A gang of boys were after David and his dad saw them having a go at him. He intervened but they all turned on him, killing him.

“David saw his dad die in front of him and now his son has seen David die in front of him. I can’t believe this tragedy has happened twice.”

Today Mrs Martin, 39, spoke of her grief for the first time. She had tried to save her husband and was treated in hospital for shock and minor injuries after the attack at about 7pm on Sunday.

Speaking from the family home, she said: “I’m grieving for my husband. I just want him back but that’s not going to happen, is it.”

Officers called to the cul-de-sac of semi-detached houses found his body in a front garden.

A neighbour who wished to remain anonymous, said he had been told the incident had all been over a ball kicked into a garden.

He said: “Two young boys around here were picking on Mr Martin’s son and they nicked the ball off him. He came round to have a word with the father of one of them and another neighbour got involved.”

Today Kay Scrivener, 41, of Rutter Gardens was remanded in custody at Wimbledon magistrates’ court charged with wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.

A girl of 14 and two women aged 69 and 41 who were arrested in connection with the attack have been released on bail.

A man in his 30s remains in custody at a south London police station.

All are believed to be related.

Bloody chavs. They don’t even have the bullocks to fight one on one.

Nod of Doom to Stephanie.

Johnson trial starts

Weapons trial begins for Jonesboro school shooter Johnson:

The federal weapons trial for Jonesboro shooter Mitchell Johnson started earlier today.

In opening statements the prosecution stated that Johnson is a heavy marijuana user and had a nickel plated 9mm in his possession at the time of the traffic stop on New Year’s Day 2007.

The defense says that Johnson was pulled over on a bogus tip that Johnson was in possession of 100 pounds of marijuana and that police were looking for any reason to pull him over.

The article also contained this little gem of information…

Johnson left prison with an “adjudicated” record _ meaning he could own firearms.

I really hope the state of Arkansas closed that loophole too when they fixed the law that allowed Johnson and his cohort Andrew Golden to be released.

The cop that pulled Johnson over testified that he saw Johnson driving erratically but admitted that he was looking for a legal reason to pull Johnson over.

I’ll admit the evidence against him seems pretty flimsy but Johnson should have never set foot out of jail in my opinion.

Thanks to everyone who sent in tips.

Bit off a prostitute’s ear

Man accused of biting off part of prostitute’s ear:

A 54-year-old man from Shoreline, Washington arranged for a craigslist prostitute to come to his house. He paid the 44-year-old woman, but before they could do the do she moved towards the door to get better reception on her cellphone. The man thought she was trying to leave before providing her services so he bit a quarter-sized piece of her ear off. The woman fled to the hospital where she notified police. The piece of ear was found in the man’s trash can and doctors said they’re not sure that the ear could be repaired. The article didn’t specify what charges the man is facing.

It’s not just the johns that need to be worried about their safety it’s the working girls too.

I would love to know craigslist’s reaction to this crime but I imagine it would be something along the lines about how they’re not responsible for crime committed by their users and how they assist law enforcement blah blah blah blah.

Going to California

New Trial to Begin for School Shooter:

It seems that Jonesboro shooter Mitchell Johnson was on his way to California to make a new life for himself. Too bad he got caught travelling with another convicted murderer, and marijuana, and a gun.

“Honest to God, I’m just trying to get to Cali, man,” Johnson told deputies as they searched the loaded-down, 1980s Ford van at a Fayetteville convenience store. The incident was recorded on video.

Awwww…isn’t that cute.

And it seems that he had just received the gun prior to his arrest on New Year’s Day 2007.

Johnson lived in North Carolina and California for a while. He even returned to Jonesboro over Christmas 2006, where Craighead County Sheriff Jack McCann had warned that deputies “couldn’t guarantee” the safety of either him or Golden.

He received a silver 9 mm Lorein pistol as a present and practiced “target shooting” near the city.

Who in the blue hell thought it was a good idea to give a convicted school shooter and murderer another gun?

Since he had already lived in California and returned to Arkansas it proves the old adage. You can’t go home again. Or maybe that should be you shouldn’t go home again.

1,500 Volt Stun Glove

Electric Glove for Police Stuns Victims With 1,500 Volts:

No, this isn’t a new Taser-like device for police. This is from an article posted at Modern Mechanix from 1935.

I love this quote from the 1935 article.

Persons contacted by an officer wearing the glove receive a 1,500-volt shock, sufficient to remove all traces of fight.

I’m guessing that was before the prevalent use of meth, coke, and PCP.

There should be a law…

…that says you’re not allowed on the internet unless you can spell correctly.
