Charges leveled against man after Craigslist postings:
40-year-old J.P. Weichel of Loveland, Colorado was apparently angry with his ex-girlfriend. So like any other maladjusted individual that hangs out on craigslist he posted things about her in their Rant and Raves section. If you’ve never been there it makes YouTube comments look like the most enlightened and well thought out piece of literature you’ve ever read.
Anyway, getting back to Mr. Weichel he posted on craigslist that his ex traded sex for legal services from her lawyer and that child services paid her a visit because of an injury on their kid.
Bad move for Mr. Weichel because now he’s been charged with criminal libel.
Once again everyone has their panties all wadded up saying that this is an assault against free speech. That depends on if Mr. Weichel’s statements are true or not. Let’s go with the assumption that Mr. Weichel is a lying sack of crap. If that was the case then Mr. Weichel’s speech would be considered libel. Now if half the people claiming first amendment bothered to take a civics class then they would know that libel is not a protected form of speech.
