craigslist crime blotter 5/15/09 – Clearing out the backlog edition

Some of these stories came out before craigslist’s new change to adult services.

Cops Use Craigslist To Bust Alleged Prostitutes:

Police in Arlington Heights, Ill. have arrested 3 in a recent craigslist hooker sting. Those arrested were Shontia Smith, 19, Sophia Drake, 22, and Kari Knox, 36.

One officer was quoted as saying…

“It’s a problem in the entire O’Hare area,” he said. “We just don’t want it to get out of hand here. This is not the type of community where this stuff is viewed in a positive light.”

In Gilford, NH Damian W. Toomey and Alishea S. Comtois almost got all stabby when they argued how much Comtois should be paid for her erotic massage services that she advertised on craigslist.

Schneider: Warrant issued for suspected Craigslist scammer:

I originally posted about alleged Lansing, Michigan craigslist scammer Chad Smith here. It turns out his name really is Chad Smith and a warrant has been issued for his arrest for an employment scam he was running.

Renters warned of Craigslist scam:

People looking to rent property in Attleboro, Mass. are being told to be wary of a scammer that goes by the name of Ken Gregg. Mr. ‘Gregg’ posted an ad on craigslist renting out a property that wasn’t his and he claimed to be a Christian missionary in Africa.

Ex-con charged in two Craigslist robberies, main suspect in others:

Police in Oakland, California arrested 34-year-old ex-con Damien Bell in the infamous armed robberies of people who thought they were buying a used car off of craigslist. Bell is being prosecuted under California’s Three Strikes law. I hope the cash was worth a life sentence.

Ex-Pharmacist Wanted For Craigslist Sex Ad Revenge:

38-year-old Jonathan Medina is a pharmacist from Norwalk, Conn. who is on the run. Police say he posted a customer’s address and phone number on a phony craigslist ad posing as the woman looking for a sex partner. The woman had complained about lousy service and alleges that this was Medina’s revenge. Not only is this harassment but more than likely it’s a HIPAA violation as well.
