News of Doom: AL teacher admits to molesting 20 children over 25 years

Daniel Montague Acker Jr.

Police: Teacher molested kids in class:

Shelby County superintendent: Schools aiding police after ex-teacher charged with sex abuse:

This story actually broke a few weeks ago and I apologize for letting it escape my notice until recently.

49-year-old Daniel Montague Acker Jr. has taught for the Shelby County, Alabama school system for 25 years. Recently he was arrested on child molestation charges and according to police he has admitted to molesting 21 children from the school system over the past 25 years. One such incident is even said to have happened in front of a classroom full of children. Acker’s most recent victim recently came forward and is 12-years-old but she claims that Acker molested her while she was in the fourth grade. Student’s in fourth grade are routinely 9 or 10 years old. Acker taught fourth grade in multiple schools in the district for the majority of his career.

Acker had previous allegations of child molestation that were investigated but Acker was never indicted. You may ask yourself why and I would say that maybe this had something to do with it…

Rigney said Acker, who is the son of Shelby County Commissioner Dan Acker Sr., admitted to molesting more than 20 other students during his teacher career in Alabaster.

Never underestimate the power of small town politics and nepotism to get something swept under the rug.

He asked that anyone with any information regarding the case call the Alabaster Police Department at 663-7401.

Thanks to Lori for the tip.
