Not the craigslist killing you’re looking for, Indiana Guardsmen killed during robbery

Friends: National Guard vet, 32, fatally shot trying to buy iPad off Craigslist:

Lizton Guardsman slain buying iPad, police say:

Tryon and Tyshaune Kincade

Yes, I know. You want to read about the craigslist thrill kill that recently took place in Pennsylvania. Don’t worry, I’ll get to that. However there are other craigslist killings that haven’t made the national news that are just as equally disheartening and disturbing.

This past week 32-year-old James Vester of Lizton, Indiana, was shot and killed when trying to purchase what he believed to be an iPad through craigslist. Instead he was allegedly shot and killed by Indianapolis brothers Tryon Kincade, 19, and Tyshaune Kincade, 18. Robbery is said to be the motive.

Vester was no rube. He was an Indiana Guardsman who had toured Iraq and probably knew how to take care of himself. He even went to meet the ‘sellers’ in the light of day. Unfortunately even the best soldiers aren’t bulletproof. Tragically he leaves behind a wife and a 1-year-old son. All because two scumbag brothers were too lazy to make an honest living. Yet a man who probably just wanted to get someone a nice Christmas present for his family is now dead over probably just a few hundred bucks.

It doesn’t matter who you are, what you know, or how innocent your intentions are. If you do any kind of business on craigslist you are taking your life in your hands.

UPDATE 12/12/2013: Police believe that the Kincades are involved in several other craigslist robberies.

Also the brothers have pleaded not guilty.

The widow of James Vester released a statement in which she said…

I am so happy his story has went viral worldwide so maybe people will think twice about trying to run a scam/robbery/murder through Craigslist or any other site. I want to focus on all of the good Jim brought to this world and not focus on the people who did this to him.

My apologies Mrs. Vester. While I’m sure your husband was a good man the world occasionally needs to be reminded that evil lurks within it.
