The Dawson College Massacre game

‘Despicable’ game based on Dawson College shooting:

As with Columbine and Virginia Tech some tasteless soul took it upon themselves to make a game based on the Dawson College shootings that took place 4 years ago in Montreal. The game was called Dawson College Massacre and was hosted on the bastion of good taste Newgrounds. Which in my opinion is 4chan for flash gamers.

The game was developed by a Newgrounds user who calls himself Virtualman. The goal of the game is to storm Dawson College as Kimveer Gill and kill as many people as possible. I don’t doubt that this Virtualman is a mutant based on his statements to the Canadian press…

“I am not quite sure why I made it, I have been studying these school shooters a long time now and I just see how people want to just push the whole subject under the rug,” he writes.

“I don’t want to say I am 100% sympathetic with killers like this because obviously what they’ve done is pretty sick. But you can most DEFINITELY see the path they took which lead them to commit such a crime.”

The reason people want to push the subject under the rug is in order to keep it from happening again in the future. And if you can tell me what drove Kimveer Gill to storm Dawson college and kill Anastasia De Sousa and injuring others please tell me because as far as I can tell Gill was just a basement dwelling loser who had no trauma in his life that caused him to snap.

Virtualman did at least have the decency to pull the game off of Newgrounds after he found out that Anastasia De Sousa’s family was offended by the game. However this is the internet and once posted nothing ever goes away.

I’m all for free speech even in this ‘nothing is sacred’ era and even though I believe that Virtualman had every right to post his game and no law in Canada or the U.S. could make him take it down it just amazes me that how much human decency some people lack. Games like this and SCMRPG remind me of games I heard about back in the 80s that were traded on the underground. In one such game you played a Nazi soldier who would round up Jews to send them to the oven then use their gold fillings as in game currency. I hate to Godwin this post but yeah, games like this that glorify school shootings are really just as bad.

Wellington teen Daniel Petric gets 23 years to life in prison for killing his mother:

You remember Daniel Petric don’t you? He’s the Ohio teen who was convicted of shooting his parents because they wouldn’t let him play the video game Halo 3. His Mother, Susan Petric, died but his father Mark Petric survived. Anyway this week Petric the younger was sentenced to 23 years to life for his actions. Petric cried like a baby during the hearing.

The judge who convicted him actually seems to blame the game. I’m 40 years 0ld. I was part of the first generation of gamers who got their Atari 2600′s on the late 70′s. I can’t wait until some of us start holding positions in national politics and judgeships so people will stop blaming the game when obviously it’s the criminal that’s wrong.

Bill would limit sale of video games:

Our favorite idiot lawyer from Florida is on the move again. This time he’s in Delaware trying to help State Rep. Helene Keeley, D-Wilmington South, get a law passed that would restrict businesses from selling M-rated games to minors. Never mind the fact that most legitimate stores won’t sell M-Rated games to anyone under 18 and that the majority of kids who get these games are getting through their parents. Jack never let’s facts get in his way. Like this little nugget of misinformation from Jack…

Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold, the Colorado teens who massacred 13 of their fellow Columbine High School students in 1999, “literally trained on the game ‘Doom,’ ” Thompson said.

Sure they did Jack. Just forget all those tapes they made showing them at a homemade target practice. I myself, and millions of other people have played Doom and never picked up a gun in anger but again let’s not let facts get in the way.

Jack also had this to say about the free speech ramifications…

Thompson, meanwhile, said the First Amendment debate is misplaced.

“This isn’t even speech,” Thompson said, holding up a video-game display box. “This is software that enables a machine to allow a player to play a game.”

Does he really believe the lies that he’s spewing forth?

When will politicians, especially Democrats, stop getting in bed with this assclown? It’s making them look worse than they already are.

Tenn. Killer Played GTA:

I knew this was going to happen. I think we all did. Our favorite Miami ambulance chaser Jack Thompson has reared his ugly asshatted head and has come out and said that he will “swear under oath” that Ken Bartley played GTA. Bartley is 15. It’s almost like shooting fish in a barrel to say the kid played GTA…

The revelation is considered significant by Thompson because initial accounts of the shooting show that the teen did not go to school with the intent to kill, and it appears that an event triggered the teenager into committing homicide, which was programmed into the brain via rehearsal in Grand Theft Auto. Here’s what the press release stated:

…as it appears, based upon initial accounts of the shooting, that the 15-year-old boy did not go to school with the intent to kill. As has happened in other instances, as in the triple homicide in Fayette, Alabama, by an 18-year-old obsessive player of the cop-killing Grand Theft Auto: Vice City, a highly-charged emotional event can serve as a trigger for such a shooting. These killing games allow an individual, unwittingly, to rehearse for homicide. When pushed by fear, the game’s rehearsal function becomes the young brain’s “default setting.”

Jack Thompson has ascended to ranks of assclownery of the likes that have only previously been obtained by Michael Moore. And Mr. Thompson reaches it in the same way by being a morbid opportunist using as many tragedies as possible to further his viewpoint.

Back to the point at hand. I’m sure it was GTA that made Ken Bartley kill. I’m sure it had nothing to do with a substance abuse problem.

Congratulations Jack, you have usurped Michael Moore’s throne and are now King of All Assclowns. Hail to the king.

Man Gets Death for Killing Three in Ala.:

Devin Moore, the 18-year-old who was convicted for killing two police officers and a dispatcher, was sentenced to death. If you remember Moore’s attorneys tried blaming his actions on Grand Theft Auto. But the defense attorneys are already looking to appeal on the grounds that the video game “evidence” was excluded and the fact that the jury was all white while Moore is black. :roll: An all plaid jury would have convicted him. He killed three cops. He deserves to die.

Take that Jack Thompson.

Jury recommends death for Alabama man convicted in cop killings:

The death sentence has been recommended by an Alabama jury for Devin Moore, the so-called “GTA Killer” who killed two officers and a radio dispatcher at the Fayette police station in June 2003. For those of you who may not remember defense attorneys tried blaming Moore’s obsessive playing of the video game Grand Theft Auto on the killings. Luckily he was convicted of the killings. The final decision on sentencing is up to the judge and is scheduled for September 30th. Hopefully Alabama will live up to its reputation and execute this piece of human filth. And what do you know, Alabama still has the electric chair.

Video Game Player Guilty in Ala. Slaying:

I originally told you about this story back in February about Devin Moore. He’s the 18-year-old kid who shot and killed three police officers and when he was arrested he said “Life is a video game; everybody has to die sometime.” Of course the games in question were GTA games. Which in turn prompted a lawsuit against Rockstar Games by Moore’s family prompted by everyone’s favorite assclown Jack Thompson.

Anyway, Devin Moore was convicted of capital murder. That means he’s eligible for the death penalty. In Alabama that’s a very likely possibility.

Teens Protest ‘Columbine-Like’ Video Game:

Thanks a lot Jack Thompson. Now everyone who is not a gamer is referring to Bully as “The Columbine Game”. Apparently a group of teenage busybodies known as the Peaceaholics protested at Rockstar Games New York office…

“A lot of youth are playing these games and there’s a lot of violence that people are copying,” said Cordero Sellers, 16. “I’m trying to do my best to stop this release.”

“It’s important that we’re here today because violent images seen on games are copied by kids,” said Anthony Ford, 17.

“We’re trying to stop people getting hurt before it’s too late.”

Oh and guess who accompanied them…

Florida lawyer and anti-violence activist John Thompson accompanied the kids.

“Columbine changed the face of America but you [Rockstar] are about to come out with a game that celebrates, glamorizes and trains kids to do what [Columbine killers] Dylan Klebold and Eric Harris did,” said Thompson.

“Bullying is not a subject for a video game. We are not asking Rockstar to stop making this game, we are demanding they stop.”

Again with the Columbine comparison.

Do these people do any research at all? I have yet to see any gameplay details from the game outside of Rockstar’s official description…

Rockstar is keeping details of the plot a closely guarded secret but describes it as “humorous” and “tongue in cheek.”

The company states on its Web site: “As a troublesome schoolboy, you’ll stand up to bullies, get picked on by teachers, play pranks on malicious kids, win or lose the girl and ultimately learn to navigate the obstacles of the fictitious reform school Bullworth Academy.”

So as far as I know there has been no mention of shooting and killing your other classmates. So these people are just assuming. And we know what happens when you assume. Jack Thompson makes an even bigger assclown out of himself.

Anti-Game Lawyer Labels ESA President a “Thug”:

I should have known that after Hillary Clinton’s rant about GTA that it would only be a matter of time before everyone’s favorite ambulance chaser from Florida, Jack Thompson, would be shooting his mouth off. Pun intended. Now he’s written an open letter to anyone who will listen I guess. Here are some excerpts…

Thompson begins his letter by once again blaming the “violent video game industry” for the terrible Columbine tragedy.

Still? Way to open up strong Jack proving right off the bat just how much of an assclown you are.

…he then praises Clinton, saying, “Millions of American parents should be thankful to the Senator for striking back against what can be fairly called ‘Grand Theft Innocence’ at the expense of our children by only some within your industry.”

GTA is not intended for children. Never has been, never will be. Again if kids are playing this game it’s because their parents let them. What part of this equation doesn’t he get?

Thompson, who stresses his pride as a lifelong Republican, believes, “The Republican Party would do well to wake up and realize that Senator Clinton is about the work that needs to be done. Today is a mere extension of her years of commitment. This is not politics. This is leadership.”

He then states his distaste for our current Republican President, George W. Bush, who he says “has consistently turned away from parents who have asked him to speak out against the entertainment industry’s assault on our children.” But Thompson saves his true vitriol for Doug Lowenstein and the ESA.

The fact that Thompson considers himself a Republican sickens me. But good for President Bush for not giving in to the hysterics that people like Thompson and his ilk are fond of displaying.

And he says that video games are not protected by the first amendment…

Thompson also calls into question the ESA’s claim that video games are protected as free speech. “I have never, in my eighteen years of public interest law practice against the excesses of the entertainment industry, run into an individual more devoid of even an elementary understanding of the meaning and scope of the First Amendment. Even Howard Stern’s lawyers look like Alexander Hamilton compared to Lowenstein,” he says. “Doug Lowenstein embarrasses each and every one of you when he holds forth about what the ‘Founders’ intended when they drafted the Bill of Rights. For Doug, the Founders are GTA’s Tommy Vercetti and Carl Johnson. Doug never met a pixilated prostitute he didn’t like, and I’m sure James Madison would be impressed.”

How did this guy ever get a law license? Come on Jack be honest with the people. You don’t really care about “the children” do you? You’re probably more concerned about scoring a big payday against the entertainment industry and making a name for yourself. And if it’s at the sake of personal responsibility so be it.

Jack Thompson, it is you that is wrong with our country today. Not video games.

Clinton wants inquiry into Grand Theft sex:

When you see the words Clinton and sex in the same headline it’s hard not to assume it’s Bill. But alas it is Hillary that has her jock in a wad over the “Hot Coffee” mod of the PC version of GTA: San Andreas. Basically what the mod does is that it lets the main character participate in graphic depiction of simulated sex acts.

Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton is calling on federal regulators to investigate the latest version of Grand Theft Auto, a popular video game series that allows players to go on simulated crime sprees.
In a letter she is sending Thursday to the Federal Trade Commission, the New York Democrat expresses concern over reports that anyone who uses a free code downloaded over the Internet can unlock sexually graphic images hidden inside the game, called “Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas.”

Clinton asked the commission to determine “the source of this content,” especially since the game can fall into the hands of young people. The game industry’s self-policing unit, the Entertainment Software Rating Board, is investigating whether the maker of the game violated the industry rule requiring “full disclosure of pertinent content.”

Clinton also asked the commission to look into whether the industry erred in giving the game a rating of M, or mature, for players 17 years and older. National electronics store chains sell M-rated games but tend to avoid adult-only titles.

She asked the commission to determine whether retailers were adequately enforcing the ratings. Citing statistics released by the National Institute on Media and the Family, she said that 50 percent of boys between 7 and 14 were able to buy M-rated video games.

“Parents who rely on the ratings to make decisions to shield their children from influences that they believe could be harmful should be informed right away if the system is broken,” she said.

As usual she’s just another clueless legislator who knows nothing about video games. Here’s the thing. One, as far as I know it’s only the PC version of the game. Secondly according to this article…

Hackers created the ‘Hot Coffee’ modification by disassembling and then combining, recompiling and altering the game’s source code,” the statement explains.

And lastly at least one of the characters is fully clothed.

Yet she wants to throw federal tax dollars at an investigation into a hack that the creators of the game are not responsible for.

And again this is coming from a member of the party that supposedly is all about free expression. Remember kids; the Democrats want to take away your video games.
