Scene Kids Cry As Streaming Site Stickam Shuts Down:
Normally I don’t like linking to TechCrunch but it was the closest thing I could find to a legitimate news outlet that was covering this.
Anyway, on January 31st, 2013 at 11:59 PM Pacific Time the live streaming video and chat site Stickam stopped broadcasting for good. In the company’s last blog post they warned users that they were closing down but gave no real reason as to why.
For those of you who had no idea what Stickam was it was a live video chat site that allowed users to broadcast and chat with other users. The main problem was is that it’s only age restriction was that you only had to be 14 to be on the site and of course they did not check ages. They also used to allow private rooms which more than one predator took advantage of. The most infamous incident from Stickam is when one John Hock sexually assaulted a woman live on cam.
I think their demise started when they did away with private rooms back in 2009. They tried having a paid private room level of service but they also said that they wouldn’t tolerate anything sexually in the private rooms. For the most part people only went to Stickam for live porn in my opinion. While there may have been any number of emo attention whores and dope smoking Juggalos on their channels for the most part Stickam was all about live porn. Without that I’m sure the majority of their users left in droves. I’m surprised it took 4 years for them to finally close the doors.
This isn’t a reason for celebration though. In the years since Stickam turned off private rooms a number of smaller webcam sites have started geared strictly towards porn and some even make money for their users. Some have strict age verification while most do not allowing anyone of any age to get on cam and expose themselves for a few bucks.
Again I say that it is the job of the parent to make sure that their kids don’t end up on any sites like these. As I’ve said many times before no underage kid needs a webcam and if they do have one they should never be allowed to use the computer unattended. You wouldn’t open their bedroom windows for predators so why would you open one that would allow the entire internet into their rooms?
Robert Vincent Peace (I like them French fried potaters. Mmhmm)
UPDATE: Coach Pleads Not Guilty to Child Porn Charges:
45-year-old Robert Vincent Peace of Lake Forest, California was recently arrested and pleaded not guilty to child porn charges. According to investigators the former kids soccer coach was a Stickam predator.
In 2009 Peace allegedly met a 13-year-old girl on the live streaming site and convinced her to send explicit videos of herself to him. Once he got the videos police say that he threatened the girl into sending him more explicit images by saying that he would post the videos online if she didn’t. Peace is said to have posted the videos online anyway. For most of 2009 Stickam still had their private rooms where basically anything went regardless of age.
This came to light in 2011 when a family member of Peace’s discovered child porn on Peace’s computer. Not only did that lead to the alleged videos of his Stickam victim but close to 2000 other child porn images.
Peace is actually a citizen of the UK and is being held on $500K bond.
Anyone with additional information or who may have been a victim is encouraged to contact Supervising District Attorney Investigator Lou Gutierrez at 714-347-8794 or ICE’s toll-free 24-hour tip line at 866-DHS-2ICE.
Even though Stickam got rid of their private rooms almost 3 years ago there are still plenty of shady live video streaming sites out there. If you don’t want your child becoming a victim to one of these predators than I suggest you make sure they don’t have access to a webcam and keep all computers in a common area of the house.
No 13-year-old needs a webcam and as I’ve said before letting them have one is just an open invitation for sexual predators to virtually enter their rooms.
UPDATE 3/3/2012: While examining Peace’s computer investigators found that Peace had another victim from Stickam. This time it was a 14-year-old girl from Virginia.
It’s very rare anymore that I find a good news article about online safety for children. Most just regurgitate the same things that should be common sense for most parents. However this article from the Akron Beacon Journal in Ohio is a great article that talks about a scam that a lot of predators and human traffickers use, the modeling scam.
In the article it talks about a predator that was on Stickam that tried using the modeling scam before trying to blackmail a 16-year-old girl. I’ve given Stickam a lot of crap in the past but they have cleaned up their act a lot by eliminating private rooms.
Let’s get back to the modeling scam though. How it works is a predator or pimp will prey upon a teenage girl’s vanity by telling her that she’s pretty and that he can get her into modeling. It will start by them asking the girl for pictures in a bathing suit or her underwear then it will progress into requests for more explicit photos or videos. In some stories that I’ve posted girls have gotten on buses to see these ‘modeling agents’ and ended up being raped. Others have been turned out on to the streets for prostitution.
If I had a daughter that was in those vulnerable teenage years I would explain to her that the odds of becoming a high end fashion model are Powerball winning odds and that legitimate modeling agents don’t troll social and webcam sites for teen models. Then I’d take the webcam out of her room if she had one.
|What emo douchebags look like in prison.
22-year-old emo douchebag John Hock of Arizona was arrested back in 2009 for sexually assaulting his then girlfriend while she was passed out from drinking. Not only did Hock assault her while she was unconscious but he did so while live streaming it on the webcam site Stickam.
Hock was a minor Stickam celebrity/attention whore who had somewhat of following by other Stickam attention whores who came to his defense more or less blaming the victim for underage drinking instead of focusing on the real crime.
Anyway the John Hock who so many thought should go free was sentenced this past week to 2 1/2 years behind bars with time served so he’s only really going to serve about a year.
Not enough if you ask me. Not only did he practically rape this girl but he did it live on the internet. However I’m guessing his effeminate mannerisms that he displayed on Stickam will make him some friends on the inside. It might be a long year for John Hock.
Since that time Stickam has cleaned up its act however it’s still not a site you should let your children on unattended.
Richard Alan Chaney
O.C. man pleads guilty to sexually assaulting underage girls he met on MySpace, Stickam:
I originally posted about emo douchebag #2 Richard Alan Chaney here. The 25-year-old Chaney from Costa Mesa, California was arrested a year ago for violating two underage girls that he met on Stickam. One was 14 and the other was 17. The 17-year-old he violated while she was unconscious. Chaney videotaped his encounters with both girls.
Chaney pleaded guilty to the charges against him and was sentenced to 9 years in state prison. Those charges were one felony count each of oral copulation of a minor under 16, contacting a child with the intent to distribute pornography to a minor, sexual penetration by foreign object of an unconscious victim and oral copulation of an unconscious person.
Nine years doesn’t seem enough. Then again 9 years in a California state prison may be a lifetime for a child molester like Chaney. Also California does have some hardcore prisons like Folsom and San Quentin. If we’re lucky maybe he’ll serve his time at one of those.
Pluse this gives me hope that the original Sticakm emo douchebag John Hock will see some prison time as well.
And as an added bonus here is the court record of Chaney’s pleas. It looks like this was a plea deal since the charge of rape of an unconscious person was dismissed. Damn plea deals.
Thanks to Steve for the tip.
Man guilty of posting footage of him sexually assaulting his unconscious girlfriend online:
You remember John Hock don’t you? He’s the emo douchebag who broadcast the sexual assault of his drunk and unconscious girlfriend on Stickam while at her house in Phoenix.
After all his internet flunkies came out and proclaimed his innocence after his arrest he’s pleaded guilty to the 2009 assault.
Hock pleaded guilty to two counts of attempted sexual assault and one count of voyeurism. I’m sure we’ll hear about how he was railroaded and the cops were out to get him.
He’ll be sentenced in October. No word on what the sentence may be but as usual I’m sure it won’t be enough. I’d be surprised if he even sees the inside of a cell.
Stickam on the other hand has reportedly cleaned up its act by removing the private room option since then. I still wouldn’t let your kids use it though.
Stickam Sets New Standard for Blocking Inappropriate Content in Live Web Video:
The article I linked to is a press release which I normally don’t link to. However if what the release says is true it’s huge news.
I’ve given Stickam a bunch of shit in the past for their lax policies for allowing minors to be harassed and sexual assaults to be broadcast. It seems that era may have come to an end.
Stickam is announcing that they are enacting a zero tolerance policy towards sexual material and will give out lifetime bans to anyone who violates the policy.
However this does not mean that Stickam or any site is completely safe. As I keep saying parents are the only true defense against internet predators and once again I would implore parents to not let your kids have webcams or let them have computers in their rooms.
Racine man allegedly had online contact with teen:
I have to commend Stickam. Not only did they remove the private room feature on their site but when they introduced a paid feature for private rooms they specifically mentioned that nudity or anything sexual will not be permitted. They’ve come a long way. However that doesn’t mean that parents should be any less vigilant with their children.
45-year-old Thomas Haas of Racine, Wisconsin allegedly posed as a 17-year-old on Stickam calling himself “Chriss Jensen”. On Stickam he met a 14-year-old girl from Athens, Georgia and the two exchanged explicit pictures of themselves. Haas also allegedly sent the girl lingerie and used his own 12-year-old son to pose as his fictional 12-year-old brother.
The victim’s father found out who in turn contacted police.
The sick parts are that Haas told police that they were ‘just talking’ and didn’t think they were doing anything wrong and that the girl still has feelings for Haas even though she now knows his real age and identity.
Again I have to reiterate no 14-year-old needs a webcam and should not have one especially if you allow them to have their computer in their room. While we’re at it kids shouldn’t have computers in their room anyway. They should be in a common area of the house so that parents could keep an eye on their activity.
FBI Busts Massachusetts Father in Online Child Pornography Scam:
This article contains some more details about alleged Stickam predator Lawrence Joseph Silipigni Jr., or as I like to call him, Fat Larry. If you’ll recall Fat Larry convinced underage girls to masturbate on cam for him via Stickam all the while convincing them that he was a 17-year-old boy. I’m still trying to figure out how he did that.
Anyway he’s been extradited to Los Angles from his home base in Saugus, Mass.
It seems he wasn’t just some chubby pedophile loser either. According to his indictment it says that Silipigni would threaten the girls with telling their parents if they didn’t do what he wanted.
Some of his screen names were allegedly “Boston,” “Jamin,” “BostonJamin,” “RJLarry,” “Boston_Larry,” “Jamin_Fallin,” “Jaminfallen” and “here4Sam”. I don’t feel like looking for all his profiles so if you so inclined have a ball. But this does kind of show you what lengths he would go to find his victims.
And for the coup de scum is that Silipigni does not recall if he made some of the videos public.
Did I mention he has his own daughters ages 7 and 10? I shudder to think what could have happened when they reached his preferred demographic.
Parents, webcams aren’t for kids. If your kids have webcams and their computers in their rooms that’s just like leaving a window open for predators.
