Triple O sentenced for SIUE threat

Olutosin O. Oduwole

Former Southern Illinois University-Edwardsville student sentenced to 5 years in threat case:

The man I refer to as Triple O is 26-year-old Olutosin O. Oduwole. He was arrested back in 2007 when police found a note in his car on the campus of Southern Illinois University Edwardsville that threatened an attack on a school, presumably SIUE. Again, here is the contents of the note…

“if this account doesn’t reach $50,000 in the next seven days, then a murderous rampage similar to the VT shooting will occur at another highly populated university. THIS IS NOT A JOKE!”

Of course VT is in reference to the infamous Virginia Tech shootings.

Oduwole was also found to be in possession of a gun at his dorm and tried to purchase another gun while lying about his impending trial.

Back in October he was convicted for threatening a school shooting, last week he was sentenced to 5 years in prison.

Triple O convicted of SIUE threat

Olutosin O. Oduwole

Jury convicts former SIUE student of attempting to make a terrorist threat:

In an event four years in the making, Olutosin O. Oduwole was convicted of threatening an attack against Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville.

Oduwole was arrested back in 2007 while he was a student at SIUE after police found a threatening note in his illegally parked car. Here’s the contents of the note…

“if this account doesn’t reach $50,000 in the next seven days, then a murderous rampage similar to the VT shooting will occur at another highly populated university. THIS IS NOT A JOKE!”

Triple O claimed that this was just some rap lyrics that were inspired by the Adult Swim show Robot Chicken.

What’s that you say? Just a note like that shouldn’t be enough for a conviction like that? Well, how about the fact had a gun in his dorm room. Or that while out on bond he tried to purchase another gun while lying about his recent arrest. To me that’s plenty for a conviction.

He’s looking at a max of 15 years but since the proceedings took so long I would imagine that he’ll probably not get any jail time.

Judge rules threatening ‘rap’ against SIUE is not protected

Judge says jury has to decide whether SIUE student’s writings were lyrics or threat:

It’s been a very long time since we last talked about Olutosin O. Oduwole, or as I like to call him Triple O.

Back in 2007 he was arrested for allegedly making a threat against Southern Illinois University Edwardsville when a note was found in his car that said…

“Send $2 to PayPal account. If this account doesn’t reach $50,000 in the next 7 days then a murderous rampage similar to the VT shooting will occur at another highly populated university, this is not a joke!”

Compounding that was the fact that Triple O was found to be in possession of a firearm and was also under investigation for trying to illegally buy and sell guns over the internet.

His defense had been that the note was actually lyrics to a rap song and should be considered free speech. A judge recently denied that supposition and said that it will be up to a jury to determine that.

“It is the defendant, alone, who maintains that the note is rap lyrics. The front page and upper part of the note is written in black ink, and appears to be somewhat rhythmic and lyrical in nature. However, the bottom portion of the note does not appear to have any connection to the rest of the note — spatially, lyrically, rhythmically, or otherwise — and the bottom threatening portion of the note is written in blue ink and does not appear to have any connection to the portion of the note written in black ink.”

Yeah, I never thought the threats were fresh rhymes.

The only rap he’s going to have is the rap sheet he’ll have once he’s convicted.
