Sex offender arrested again for allegedly targeting kids:
33-year-old Frank Cunningham of Newmarket, Ontario, is a registered sex offender with a number of infractions to his name. In 2004 he was convicted of sexually assaulting a little girl and in 2005 was convicted for luring a child over the internet. Apparently Canadian prison agrees with him because he’s been arrested again, this time for allegedly trying to lure children through craigslist. The way he tried luring them is downright repugnant.
Police say that Cunningham posted an ad on craigslist looking to meet single mothers where he talked about cuddling up with the mothers to watch chick flicks. You can see a picture of the creepy ad he placed on craigslist in the linked article. However it’s not the mother’s he was really after, it was their children since he placed in the ad “put the age of your kid/kids” in the subject line.
Cunningham did get at least one response to his ad, the local police posing as a single mom. They had been tipped off that someone had been posting ads like this in order to gain access to the children. Police say that they also found child porn in Cunningham’s home. At this time they do not believe that any children were harmed this time by Cunningham. They are asking for anyone who has come into contact with Cunningham to call them.
Anyone with information about the case is asked to contact police at 1-866-876-5423 ext. 7078. Anonymous tips can be left through Crime Stoppers by calling 1-800-222-8477, visiting 1800222tips.com, or texting YORK and your tip to CRIMES (274637).
Even still there are people who walk around with their heads in the clouds thinking that craigslist is still a safe place to meet someone. It doesn’t matter if you’re male, female, gay, straight, or whatever, craigslist is not the ideal place to meet someone new. The chances are too great they’ll turn out to be someone like this.
A 2003 BMW 745i
Authorities link Craigslist ad for BMW to Allentown man’s homicide:
Allentown man killed over apparent car deal:
41-year-old Eric S. Ervin owned a car detailing service in Allentown, Pennsylvania. He was trying to sell his 2003 BMW 745i on craigslist for a while. He was said to have met a potential buyer on Tuesday that saw his car on craigslist. Instead Ervin was found dead of a gunshot wound in a trailer at his business.
A man from New York was arrested in Reading, Pennsylvania, while driving a silver BMW with a handgun in the car. Police have not yet released this person’s name stating that the investigation is still ongoing.
Again while deaths of craigslist users is a very small minority of the people who use their site the number of people being killed is still pretty alarming. Has there been this many killings through Auto-Trader? I highly doubt it. For whatever reason craigslist is a magnet for criminals who want to prey on honest people. Don’t be a victim. Stop using craigslist.
UPDATE 4/10/2014: The man who was arrested is 27-year-old Tyrell R. Young of Reading and is in the process of being charged with Ervin’s murder. Prosecutors say that they will more than likely seek the death penalty.
Tyrell R. Young
Thanks to Tina for the tip.
Miranda Barbour: Two men escaped with lives:
Sister: Miranda is a liar:
Elytte and Miranda Barbour
The two stories are unrelated by the way.
In the first story accused Pennsylvania craigslist killer claims that she tried to set up two men before her and idiotically named husband settled for killing Troy LaFerrara. This may actually be true. From what I’ve researched about prostitution and human trafficking a lot of men back out at the last minute before going through with soliciting the services of a pro and Barbour was posing as a prostitute. Whether or not this has any actual bearing on the investigation remains to be seen.
Then on the second story Miranda Barbour’s sister seems to make the family opinion unanimous that Miranda is a lying sack of crap. She says that Miranda’s claim of killing close to two dozen men who ‘deserved it’ comes from the TV show Dexter. For those of you who may be unfamiliar with the show the titular character is a police scientist who is also a serial killer vigilante. If this is the case Barbour wouldn’t be the first criminal to claim something in entertainment as her own.
Man fatally shoots Craigslist seller-turned-robber, police say:
Man Charged With Murder In Craigslist Robbery Gone Wrong:
Police in Coral Springs, Florida, say that 26-year-old Jason Mageau and 18-year-old Duwayne Lewis allegedly tried robbing a man after they posted a craigslist ad promising a good deal on a cell phone. After the victim showed up to make the deal Mageau allegedly produced a gun and pistol whipped the victim. The victim went back to his car where he got his gun and shot Mageau in the chest. Mageau later died at the hospital.
Have you ever heard the expression ‘never bring a knife to a gun fight’? I guess you can also say never bring a starter’s pistol to a gun fight because that’s what Mageau’s gun was. The victim on the other hand had a real gun with real bullets.
Lewis is said to have tried to tell police that he and Mageau were victims of the robbery but police say that the evidence provided by the victim shows otherwise. Lewis has been charged with murder in Mageau’s death as Florida law states a person who assists in a crime that leads to a death may be charged in that death.
So no matter what side of the craigslist robbery you’re on just by using craigslist you’re taking your life in your hands. Even the criminals are safer not using it.
Milwaukee police nab convicted sex offender in online sting operation:
Dale Lamont Williams
Police in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, have arrested Dale Lamont Williams for allegedly soliciting a 15-year-old boy for sex through craigslist. Police there say that Williams posted an ad on craigslist looking for sex with someone young. When the 15-year-old asked Williams if he was ok with the boy’s age Williams was said to respond with…
“As long as you can carry yourself like an adult when you get here and the vibe is right. I’m cool.”
Williams then instructed the boy on how to get to his residence by bus. It’s always by bus with some creepers.
If you’ve been reading this site for any length of time you should know by now that the 15-year-old boy was actually a detective who is part of Wisconsin’s Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force. It turns out that Williams is a registered sex offender who was wanted in Illinois for failure to register. Wow, another sex offender who re-offended. What are the odds? And he used craigslist too. This story seems so unlikely. Ok, that’s enough sarcasm for now.
It really should come as no surprise that a registered sex offender used craigslist to find his next victim. They know that craigslist itself does nothing to prevent these type of ads from being posted.
Evansville man pleads guilty on charges related to death of Aprina Paul:
I originally posted about the death of Aprina Paul here. She died back in October of an alleged overdose after responding to the craigslist ad of 30-year-old Nathan Middleton who was offering weed for sex. Middleton claimed he panicked when he found her dead and burnt her body beyond recognition in his backyard fire pit since he was a felon on parole.
Recently Middleton of Evansville, Wisconsin, pleaded guilty to hiding a corpse and mutilating a corpse. He has not been charged with Aprina Paul’s murder because it seems that he was actually really thorough in the burning of her body…
Rock County Sheriff Bob Spoden said the guilty pleas did little to ease his frustrations with the case. Middleton burned Paul’s body so thoroughly and covered his tracks so well that sheriff’s detectives, the state crime lab and other agencies have not uncovered any evidence that would lead to more serious charges , he added.
“I believe that he was involved in her death, I believed he covered up the crime,” Spoden said. “We’re not giving up on this, but we’re realistic.”
Middleton is still looking at a max of 32 years behind bars and maybe a scientific miracle will occur and they’ll actually be able to pin her death on him but don’t hold your breath.
The more shady the transaction appears to be on craigslist the more likely it can be for harm to come to you.
Three Charged With Murder Of Man Trying To Sell Car On Craigslist:
Third suspect charged in murder of man trying to sell car:
The list of craigslist killers keeps growing at an alarming rate. This time three more names have been added to that list.
In Memphis, Tennessee, 37-year-old Larry Wilkins was trying to sell his 2006 Mustang on craigslist. Police say he met up with some potential buyers shortly before Midnight on March 9th. Instead of selling his car Wilkins was shot and killed and his car stolen. Those charged in his murder are Brandon Vance, 21, Martiness Henderson, 17, and Walter Collins, 17.
One day when the website is exactly the way I want it I’ll have list of all the craigslist killers and victims but if I had to take a guess I’d say we’re in the dozens of killers by now.
Saraya Shakai Atkins and Kymberli Elizabeth Lindsay
Deputies dig into suspects’ pasts after man dies protecting his stepdaughter during Coden robbery:
Mobile DA: Charges upgraded to capital murder:
Not too long ago a friend of mine asked me if Miranda Barbour was the first female craigslist killer. At first I said yes then I also remembered Korena Roberts. Now you can add two more women’s names to that list. 20-year-old Saraya Shakai Atkins and 25-year-old Kymberli Elizabeth Lindsay are accused in the craigslist shooting death of 66-year-old Robert Perry.
Perry and his step-daughter went to look at a car at a local Wal-Mart that was being advertised on craigslist. While Perry was inspecting the car his step-daughter went into Wal-Mart to cash her income tax check. The decision was then made that Perry and his step-daughter were not going to buy the car and drove off.
Police say that Atkins and Lindsay chased them down in their vehicle and ran them off the road in Coden, Alabama. Atkins was allegedly brandishing the gun and when she pointed it at Perry’s step-daughter Mr. Perry went for the gun and shots were fired in the ensuing struggle. One of the shots struck Perry fatally.
Atkins and Lindsay have been charged with capital murder which would make them eligible for the death penalty.
If you’d like you can make an online donation to help the Perry family with the funeral costs.
Man arrested in connection with sex tourism business:
Just when you think the sex crimes on craigslist couldn’t get any more depraved a story like this comes along.
50-year-old Patrick Minga of Huntsville, Alabama, was recently arrested for allegedly running a sex tourism business that advertised on craigslist. In case you’re unfamiliar with what sex tourism is it’s when a travel organization arranges trips to places like Thailand in order for their customers to have sex with underage children. In this case investigators say that Minga was allegedly arranging trips to Ecuador and Colombia for customers to have sex with girls that were 13 and under. I would love to know how the ad was worded.
Minga was being investigated by the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office in Florida since that’s where they say the trips were originating from. He’s looking at 30 years for attempted sex trafficking.
Isn’t it funny how craigslist’s vaunted community policing didn’t catch this ad but the real police did? I guess it’s probably because craigslist’s community police were too busy responding to the ad.
Craigslist, it’s past time that you started monitoring your own site. Clean up your yard.
Chicago man arrested in connection with aggravated criminal sexual abuse of Evanston teen:
This story is so short it was only published in a local police blotter but it deserves more attention than that.
A 14-year-old boy from Evanston, Illinois, posted an ad on craigslist where he would engage in sex for money. police in Evanston say 43-year-old Alejandro Costilla allegedly responded to the ad and had sex with the teen. Costilla has been charged with aggravated criminal sexual abuse and patronizing a minor engaged in prostitution.
Some would have you believe that there are no teens on craigslist.
