Sen. Byrd Discusses His Klan Background:
The party of tolerance just keeps on rolling along. In the wake of Senator Dick Durbin’s seditious comments and last Thursday’s anti-Semitic mock trial we have Sen. Robert Byrd (D-WV) releasing his memoir entitled “Robert C. Byrd: Child of the Appalachian Coalfields” in which he calls his admitted membership in the Ku Klux Klan “an extraordinarily foolish mistake”. Excuse me if I question his sincerity. By Byrd’s own admission he recruited some 150 members to the KKK and was elected to the Klan office of “Exalted Cyclops”. He even admits that his time in the Klan inspired him to seek public office…

He recruited 150 members, and when Grand Dragon Joel L. Baskin (search) came to a meeting in Crab Orchard, Byrd was unanimously elected Exalted Cyclops (search).

“You have a talent for leadership, Bob,” Baskin told him. “The country needs young men like you in the leadership of the nation.”

“Suddenly lights flashed in my mind!” Byrd writes. “Someone important had recognized my abilities. I was only 23 or 24, and the thought of a political career had never struck me. But strike me that night, it did.

Well isn’t that special. A Grand Dragon thought they needed a fellow Klansmen to help lead the nation and Byrd agreed.

But the best jaw-dropping quote from Byrd is this one…

Byrd says he never resented blacks, Catholics or Jews, but he failed to “examine the full meaning and impact of the ugly prejudice behind the positive, pro-American veneer.”

Sorry Senator but I fail to believe that. Even in the 40′s people knew what it meant to put on the white hood. What I find funny is that your friends on the left believe you. What?s even funnier is that Strom Thurmond, who I’m also not a fan of, recanted his segregationist views but even up until his death the left viewed him as a racist. The thing is Strom never belonged to the Ku Klux Klan!!! So the libs can call us RepuliKKKans all they want. We’re not the ones who have a Senator who was actually in the Klan. And remember kids it wasn’t Republicans that tried to stop civil rights, it was Southern Democrats. Isn’t it funny how the left tries to rewrite history?
