Odgren appeal denied

Judge: First-degree murder ruling stands in Odgren conviction:

Judge rejects request to reduce sentence in Lincoln-Sudbury High slaying:

In Massachusetts Middlesex Superior Court Judge S. Jane Haggerty ruled that John Odgren’s first degree murder conviction will stand. That means for now Odgren will continue to serve his life sentence.

In 2007 at the age of 16 Odgren brutally stabbed and killed James Alenson in a bathroom at Lincoln-Sudbury Regional High School.

Again Odgren’s attorney argued that Odgren was not in his right mind at the time of the murder because he has Apserger’s syndrome. This is actually a great ruling for people who do have Asperger’s as it shows that just because they have this syndrome that it does not make them a murderer. If Odgren had walked or his sentence was reduced people would start looking at Asperger’s patients in an entirely different light.

Odgren was rightfully charged as an adult and was sentenced to life without parole. The people who think that no teen should ever be tried as an adult have their panties in a wad over this one. You can go back into the archives of this site and read how meticulously Odgren planned this murder and I’ll let you be the judge about that one however in my opinion justice was served.

Pity for John Odgren ‘unthinkable’

Victim’s kin: Pity for John Odgren ‘unthinkable’:

The parents of James Alenson have spoken out on the latest ploy to get their son’s killer out of jail early. Jon and Carman Alenson had this to say about John Odgren’s request to have his conviction lowered to second degree murder.

“Our family waited three and a half years for a trial. The trial was fair and a jury of John Odgren’s peers found him guilty of first-degree murder,” the Alensons said. “To seek a reduced verdict seems unfair, as our son does not get anything less than death. To hear that John Odgren’s imprisonment is unfair or cruel when he is the one who murdered our beloved son is unthinkable to us.”

Odgren’s scumbag attorney, Jonathan Shapiro, had this to say in his client’s defense…

“A first-degree murder verdict is reserved for those persons who are truly the most culpable and who are deserving of the most serious punishment the law provides,” Shapiro said. “We don’t think that justice was served in this case, when the crime was committed by a (then) 16-year-old mentally ill child.”

Mentally ill my ass. He had the mental faculties to plan this murder out almost to a T. The only thing that wasn’t premeditated was his victim. James Alenson was picked at random, other than that Odgren had the rest of the details completely planned out.

Let’s also not forget that Odgren slit the throat of James Alenson before plunging the long blade of the knife square into James Alenson’s heart.

He gave James Alenson no mercy so no mercy for his killer should be expected.

Odgren’s lawyers ask judge to reduce conviction

Odgren’s lawyers ask judge to reduce murder conviction:

The lawyers for John Odgren have requested that the judge throw out his first degree murder conviction and reduce the charge to second degree murder so he could be eligible for parole after 15 years.

Odgren was convicted of first degree murder for stabbing James Alenson in the bathroom of Lincoln-Sudbury Regional High School in Massachusetts.

Odgren’s attorney tried arguing that Odgren couldn’t be held accountable for his own actions because he had Asperger’s. As I’ve argued before Asperger’s does not make you a killer.

These kind of requests are rarely successful but not unheard of.

If this request is granted it would be a slap in the face to the family who lost a son too soon to a violent killer.

John Odgren gets LWOP

Odgren sentenced to life as Alenson’s family looks on:

Here is the first paragraph of the article about John Odgren’s sentencing…

Clutching a jacket like a security blanket and pressing his forehead against a table, special needs student John Odgren was sentenced today to mandatory life imprisonment without parole for killing fellow student James F.Alenson inside Lincoln-Sudbury Regional High School on Jan. 19, 2007.

Here’s how I would have written it…

Clutching a jacket like a little bitch and pressing his forehead against the table like a moron homicidal maniac John Odgren was sentenced to life without parole for the burtal stabbing murder of random victim James F.Alenson inside Lincoln-Sudbury Regional High School on Jan. 19, 2007.

And that’s why I’m not a journalist.

Odgren’s attorney, Jonathan Shapiro, called the sentence barbaric and uncivilized. As opposed to the stabbing of James Alenson through the heart which must have been gentle and polite.

Shapiro bitched about a minor, at the time of the crime, being sentenced to LWOP as being unconstitutional. Good luck with that and let me know how it turns out.

He’s also going to try the “teens do not have fully developed minds and aren’t responsible for their actions” bullshit as well.

If by the age of 16 if you don’t know that death is permanent and killing is wrong then your parents failed you and they should be in jail as well.

Odgren convicted

Odgren convicted of first-degree murder, faces life imprisonment:

John Odgren has been convicted of first degree murder in the 2007 stabbing death of 15-year-old James Alenson in the bathroom at Lincoln-Sudbury Regional High School.

The mandatory sentence for first degree murder is life without the possibility of parole. He’s scheduled to be sentenced Friday morning.

For those of you who think this some kind of miscarriage of justice because some people consider Odgren ‘special’ you couldn’t be more wrong.

This is a victory for people who have Asperger’s even though some will not admit it. This means that people with Asperger’s won’t be branded as dangerous or insane or killers in the making.

It’s also a victory for personal responsibility. It shows that we are all responsible for our own actions and that being socially awkward is no excuse for murder.

1st day of John Odgren trial

James Alenson’s father tearfully recalls last time he saw son before murder at L-S:

Monday was the first day of testimony in the trial of John Odgren. He being the sandwich of doom that is accused of stabbing James Alenson to death in a bathroom at Lincoln-Sudbury High School.

The opening arguments were nothing spectacular. The prosecution argued that Odgren is a dangerous murderer who killed James Alenson at random. While the defense argued that Odgren’s Asperger’s caused him to kill which is of course idiotic.

James Alenson’s father testified on Monday however his testimony was more of the testimony of his son’s life and what was taken away from his family.

Massachusetts State Police Sgt. Kerry McHugh testified that the butcher knife found in the bathroom was one that matched one that was missing from a set of kitchen knives from the Odgren household.

Prosecutor Daniel Bennett stated that after James Alenson had died Odgren asked investigators “What do I get for manslaughter? Ten to 15?”

Odgren’s lawyer, Jonathan Shapiro, argued that Odgren’s Asperger’s made it impossible for him to plan a murder.

Mr. Shapiro may want to pick up a medical text. While I don’t think Asperger’s caused Odgren to kill Asperger’s patients are usually fixated on a certain subject. I think Odgren’s subject was murder.

More on this as details become available and as time allows.

James Alenson’s family files suit

Family of Lincoln-Sudbury stabbing victim files civil suit:

The family of James Alenson has not only filed a wrongful death suit against John Odgren but they’ve also filed a suit against the man who placed Odgren at Lincoln-Sudbury Regional.

That man would be Robert Barnes a consultant for the school’s Great Opportunities Program.

While I’m not a big fan of consultants I wonder how much he knew about Odgren’s penchant for knives. I also wonder if Barnes spoke with Odgren’s parents and I wonder how much they kept from Barnes. Food for thought.

Remember James Alenson

Spitz: Murdered boy should be remembered:

This is a great article about how much of a tragedy it was when James Alenson was murdered in the bathroom of Lincoln-Sudbury Regional High School ‘allegedly’ by John Odgren.

So much potential lost because some kid wanted to commit the ‘perfect crime’.

Odgren tapes ruled admissible

Judge allows John Odgren phone recordings in trial:

A judge has ruled that the recorded jailhouse confessions of John Odgren can be used as evidence in his murder trial for the stabbing death of James Alenson at Lincoln-Sudbury Regional High School in Mass.

The trial is scheduled to start this coming Tuesday.

The Odgren tapes

Lot’s of activity in the case of John Odgren. He’s the teen who is accused of stabbing 15-year-old James Alenson to death in the bathroom of Lincoln-Sudbury Regional High School. He’s claiming Asperger’s (or in this case the sandwich of doom known as AssBurgers) as his defense. Like I’ve said before Asperger’s does not make one a homicidal psychopath. So from now on anyone that claims Asperger’s as a defense gets the Sandwich of Doom labeling.

Anyway the latest is that Odgren’s lawyer claims his client’s rights were violated when his prison phone calls were recorded. Excuse my lack of a lawyerin’ degree but I thought that was standard practice in prisons and that it was clearly posted that the calls were being recorded.

Oh I see, Odgren’s lawyer argues that Odgren has a child’s mind and is not developed enough to legally waive his right to be recorded. That’s funny. I heard that he was a Wile E. Coyote Super Genius who happened to have a passion for crime scene investigations. Does that sound like a child’s mind to you?

However the DA was quick to point out that during the conversations a recorded message played saying “This call is subject to monitoring and recording.”

In one of the recordings Odgren allegedly says that the real killer is out there and that he’s being persecuted. And here I thought that Johnnie Cochran was no longer with us. If the sandwich fits you must acquit.

In another conversation Odgren seems to even try to rationalize James Alenson’s murder…

“The worst that could possibly happen is manslaughter, because I didn’t know him, it wasn’t a crime of passion and it wasn’t premeditated.”

Again, not sounding too much like an innocent.

More on this as I have the time.
