Dallas man killed by craigslist ‘date’

Christopher Howard Beachum

Dallas Craigslist hookup turns homicidal:

Police say Oak Cliff man was murdered by suspect he met on Craigslist:

Dallas police: 27-year-old wanted on capital murder charge in stabbing of 68-year-old man in March:

On March 18th 68-year-old Gerald Canepa was found naked and dead in his Dallas, Texas home. Reports say that he had been killed by strangulation and multiple stab wounds. More than a month later police have named a suspect and he is 27-year-old Christopher Howard Beachum. Beachum is still at large.

According to police Mr. Canepa’s and Beachum had set up a ‘casual encounter’ with each other on craigslist. However instead of a tryst it turned into a murder and a robbery. Several of Mr. Canepa’s items were found at a pawn shop where they were allegedly sold by Beachum.

I wish I didn’t have to say this again but I’ll keep saying it until the message gets through. I don’t care if you’re gay, straight, a furry, or into farm animals. I implore you not to use craigslist for hook ups. Time and Time again I have shown that you are just putting yourself out there as a potential victim for assaults, rapes, robberies and unfortunately in Mr. Canepa’s case death.

Craigslist is hardly a safe place for anything these days.

UPDATE 5/16/2013: Sorry for the late update but Beachum was captured in Lane County, Oregon back on May 2nd.

Jospeh Cyr’s girlfriend talks about his arrest in Jaymie Adams’ murder

Joseph Cyr

Girlfriend Of Man Charged With Killing Pregnant Blanchard Mom Speaks Out:

In my previous post about the murder of Jaymie Adams I mentioned that police arrested Joseph Cyr after reducing the charges for Justin Adams to manslaughter. Joseph Cyr’s girlfriend, Rebekah Schultz, has taken to the local media questioning the arrest. In the interest of transparency I have been in previous contact with Ms. Schultz prior to Mr. Cyr’s arrest. At no time did she divulge any sensitive information to me.

“You have to see the things in the affidavit that don’t add up, because they are holding a man right now for reasons that are very untrue,” Schultz said.

“To say they have DNA match or cell phone pings that are on the same tower, I’m not quick to believe it because they tried to say the same things about Justin Adams,” said Schultz.

Schultz says the affidavit for Cyr’s arrest is misleading. They did not skip town after Jaymie’s disappearance, but instead relocated to the Tulsa area because of her job. Schultz says they notified detectives about that move and made sure police had their contact information after.

“They portrayed somebody who just up and left and they didn’t know, which is very untrue. They absolutely knew.”

Schultz also denies the claim made in court documents that Cyr tried to sell the truck to get rid of evidence. She says she was pregnant and they needed a bigger vehicle.

“The truck had been taken in. They said they processed it and didn’t find anything and they gave it back. There was nothing that indicated we shouldn’t be able to sell it.”

Normally I would be one of the first people to say how coincidental this would be albeit sarcastically but I tend to believe Ms. Schultz. If you think my objectivity in this case is being swayed by Ms. Schultz you’d be wrong. I have yet to read anything that is a smoking gun that leads me to believe that Joseph Cyr committed this crime. Also I’d like to see the OKC police answer a simple question. If they say that have a sample of Joseph Cyr’s DNA from Jaymie Adams’ autopsy how come it isn’t mentioned in the autopsy report? Not to mention I have yet to hear a motive on why Cyr allegedly killed her while Justin Adams. Jaymie’s husband, had plenty of motive.

Could my opinion be swayed in the future? Absolutely, but it would have to take some pretty convincing evidence on the part of investigators. So far, as far as what’s been published in the media, they do not have that evidence in my opinion. As far as I’m concerned everything points to Justin Adams as being his wife’s killer.

Richard Beasley sentenced to death for Ohio craigslist killings

Richard Beasley

Richard Beasley

Craigslist killer Richard Beasley sentenced to death:

Previously an Ohio jury recommended the death penalty for 53-year-old Richard Beasley after he was convicted of killing 51-year-old David Pauley, 47-year-old Timothy Kern and 56-year-old Ralph Geiger. Yesterday Beasley was officially sentenced to death for killing the three victims in the craigslist job scam murders. Beasley was in danger of going to jail for drug and human trafficking charges and was going to steal the identities of his victims to avoid capture.

By my estimation Beasley will more than likely be 73 when his execution date finally rolls around. Since Beasley appears to be in not so good health he’ll probably die of natural causes long before then.

Beasley stated in court that his conviction will be reversed. Don’t hold your breath on that one.

OSBI offers reward in Carina Saunders murder

Carina Saunders

Carina Saunders

OSBI Offers Reward In Saunders Homicide Case:

The Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigations (OSBI) is offering $10,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of Carina Saunders murderer or murderers. If you’ll recall the 19-year-old’s body was found dismembered in a duffel bag behind a store in Bethany, Oklahoma.

Originally investigators thought that the murder may have been committed by a Juggalo which brought this story top my attention. That Juggalo was soon ruled out as a suspect. Then police arrested two men under the assumption that Carina was tortured and killed to intimidate others into working for a drug and human trafficking ring. The charges against those two suspects were dropped due to lack of evidence. Since then the Bethany police have turned over the investigation to the OSBI.

If anyone has any information, knows of any evidence in this case, they are urged to call 1-800-522-8017. The $10,000 reward is the maximum state law allows OSBI to offer.

For the sake of Carina’s family and friends I hope this reward leads to a valid arrest very soon.

Backpage has killers too, this one happened in Minn.

Alberto Prece Palmer

Alberto Prece Palmer

Woodbury Man Arrested as Suspect in Brittany Clardy Murder Case:

Man arrested in death of St. Paul teen found in towed car was wanted in violent attacks:

18-year-old Brittany Clardy of St. Paul, Minnesota was reported missing on February 11th. Her body was found on February 21st inside of a car that had been towed from a Brooklyn Park apartment complex to a police impound lot. Investigators say that she was working as a prostitute that had been advertised on Backpage. Police now believe that they have captured her killer.

In March police arrested 23-year-old Alberto Prece Palmer who was staying at a residence in Woodbury, MN. Palmer also has warrants out for his arrest in Georgia where he had attacked other prostitutes from Backpage.

Alberto Prece Palmer, 23, is accused of putting the woman in a closet and raping and beating her. He then allegedly bound and gagged her, wrapped her in blankets and put her in a plastic storage container in her car. She reportedly escaped hours later, said Chamblee, Ga., police Sgt. Ernesto Ford.

So not only does Backpage have their hands in all sorts of sex trafficking of women and children but they also have their hand in a number of murders. Sadly Ms. Clardy is far from the first women to advertise on Backpage to be murdered. Yet Backpage will still insist that it’s their First Amendment right to not only advertise these women but to make a nice little profit off of them as well. It doesn’t matter how many children have been sold for sex, how many girls and women have been raped or how many have been killed. For Backpage it’s all about their bottom line. Apparently the First Amendment rights of Backpage are infinitely more important than the lives of the women and children that are advertised on their site. Again not enough people are outraged about Backpage and they should. I guess ‘Backpage Killer’ doesn’t have the same punch or alliteration as ‘Craigslist Killer’ for these stories to be national headlines.

Charges amended to manslaughter in death of Jaymie Adams

Justin Adams

Justin Adams

Oklahoma County prosecutors reduce charges against Justin Adams in death of wife and unborn child:

Earlier today prosecutors in Oklahoma County, Oklahoma reduced the charges against Justin Adams to first-degree manslaughter in the death of his wife Jaymie. Jaymie Adams died after being stabbed and struck repeatedly. She was also pregnant at the time of her death.

Prosecutors, in the latest charges, allege Adams “aided and abetted Jaymie Adams in engaging in acts of prostitution,” engaging in criminal conduct “that resulted in the death of Jaymie Adams.”

The Adamses were allegedly swingers and Justin Adams contends that his wife was a prostitute that advertised online.

I have yet to see an article that details why the charges were amended. It could just be that investigators do not yet have conclusive evidence to pin the murder of his wife on Adams. In my opinion while the evidence so far may just be circumstantial all roads lead to Justin Adams. As I have detailed before there was a life insurance policy taken out on Jaymie by her husband, the alleged affair that Justin Adams was having and the matter in which Jaymie was killed seemed incredibly personal.

Adams’ attorney, the ever vocal Irven Box, said that he is going to try to have the charges dismissed tomorrow.

Some reports mention Joseph Cyr as a possible suspect who I posted about here. Supposedly Cyr’s DNA, specifically semen, was found on Jaymie Adams’ even though the initial autopsy report makes no mention of it. I still don’t see Cyr as a viable suspect. Even if Jaymie was a prostitute and Cyr was one of her clients what would be his motive for murdering her so brutally? The only thing I could think of is if Cyr was on PCP at the time. Mr. Cyr has not been charged with anything as of yet.

Maybe the OSBI should take over this investigation much like they did with the murder of Carina Saunders because in my opinion it seems like local investigators are in over their heads.

UPDATE 11:46 PM EDT: Joseph Cyr has been arrested in the murder of Jaymie Adams. Again the investigation states the DNA evidence and that Cyr’s cell phone records show that he was in the area at the time of Jaymie’s death. They originally said that about Justin Adams too but now they say those reports were inaccurate. I’m still not convinced that Cyr is the right suspect. This investigation has been so mishandled I can see everybody walking on this case.

The latest craigslist killing happened in Tinley Park, IL

Christopher Dyson

Christopher Dyson

Markham man charged in Tinley Park shooting:

The latest name to add to the ever-expanding list of craigslist killers is 18-year-old Christopher Dyson. He’s accused of allegedly shooting 24-year-old Thomas Mastro to death after a craigslist deal gone wrong in Tinley Park, Illinois.

Police say that Mastro placed an ad on craigslist looking to unload his Playstation 3 and had agreed to trade it with Dyson for an iPhone. Mastro went to get the PS3 in the box from Dyson’s trunk when a struggle for the box ensued and Dyson shot Mastro in the chest. This was all done in broad daylight in front of a local convenience store. Dyson was caught after a 45 minute manhunt.

Again doing any kind of business on craigslist is like taking your life in your own hands. It doesn’t matter the location, the time of day or how many witnesses are around. Some people don’t care and will stop at nothing as long as it benefits themselves no matter how small the dollar amount may be.

Richard Beasley convicted of Ohio craigslist killings, jury recommends death

Richard Beasley

Richard Beasley

Ohio jury recommends Craigslist killer be sentenced to death:

First I apologize for not being current in this story, real life and all that.

Anyway last week 53-year-old Richard Beasley was convicted in the killings of 51-year-old David Pauley, 47-year-old Timothy Kern and 56-year-old Ralph Geiger. Beasley lured them to Ohio by posting craigslist ads promising employment on a ranch but instead killed the three men in order to steal their identities. Beasley was facing criminal prosecution on charges of drug and human trafficking. Beasley enlisted the aid of a family friend, the then 16-year-old Brogan Rafferty. Rafferty was convicted and sentenced to life without parole. Beasley’s schemes unraveled when a fourth victim got away after being shot in the arm.

Yesterday an Ohio jury recommended the death penalty for Beasley. The judge is expected to issue her sentence next week. Ohio is no slouch in the death penalty department having executed over 50 criminals since 1999. On the downside by my estimations it’s usually an average of a 20 year wait between crime and execution.

Timothy Smith convicted in Illinois craigslist murder

Timothy Smith

Timothy Smith

Smith found guilty of first-degree murder:

Today 28-year-old Timothy Smith of Woodstock, Illinois was convicted of first degree murder for the May 2011 shooting of 48-year-old Kurt Milliman.

At the time Smith was prostituting his pregnant wife on craigslist and Milliman went to their home to use her ‘services’. According to Smith’s wife Milliman was drunk and she asked him to leave. When Milliman tried to force the issue by allegedly slapping Smith’s wife Smith shot Milliman in the back with a .38. However instead of calling police Smith tried to make the crime scene look like a break in by breaking a window and rearranging various items in the home. Meanwhile Milliman was still alive and bleeding to death. Smith claims he did this because he was ashamed of what he and his wife were doing. I’m sure it had nothing to do with the fact that he didn’t want to be arrested for pimping his pregnant wife.

Smith is facing 45 to 85 years while his wife was granted immunity from the murder charges for her testimony. He is scheduled to be sentenced in late April.

While justice has been served there are no good guys in this story, only bad guys. Smith was turning out his pregnant wife while Milliman was supposedly violent towards her when she refused his money. All during a time when craigslist had supposedly gotten rid of prostitution ads on their site. If only one of the parties involved actually acted like a responsible human being none of this would have happened.

Charges dropped against Carina Saunders murder suspects

Carina Saunders

Carina Saunders

Murder charges dismissed in Carina Saunders homicide case:

Two men who were charged in the brutal murder and mutilation of 19-year-old Carina Saunders have had the murder charges against them dropped.

Carina’s body was found mutilated in a duffel bag behind a Bethany, Oklahoma grocery store in October of 2011. Jimmy Lee Massey Jr. and Luis E. Ruiz were believed to have tortured and murdered Carina. Witnesses even allegedly placed them at the at the location of Carina’s murder. Her murder was supposedly done in order to intimidate others into participating in a human trafficking and drug ring.

The charges were dropped after the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation (OSBI) were asked to take over the case and the charges were dropped due to lack of evidence. However the charges could be refiled if new evidence is discovered.

Ruiz is currently free while Massey is still imprisoned on drug trafficking charges.

I really feel bad for the family and friends of Carina Saunders. After dying a horribly violent death and believing that her killers were brought to justice only to receive the news that the Bethany police may have gotten the wrong men must just be even more heartbreaking for them. I pray that the OSBI does not make the same mistakes and brings her killer or killers to justice.

UPDATE 3/7/2013: Here is more information on why the murder charges were dropped for now.
