Mother of B’ville student accused of plotting mass shooting says he did not seriously plan violence:

I’m in the process of trying to catch up on stories that I’ve fallen way behind on due to other stories taking precedence or because of my real life responsibilities and this is one of them. It deals with 18-year-old Sammie Chavez who was arrested for plotting a school shooting attack against Bartlesville High School in Bartlesville, Oklahoma. Chavez was arrested on the same day as the Newtown tragedy but before that shooting took place. You can see my original post on Chavez here.

Not too long after his arrest back in December Chavez’s mother came out to the media saying that her son would never plan any such kind of violence.

Jessie Chavez said her son has symptoms of possible mental illnesses – including depression, bipolar disorder and multiple personalities – and had been seeing a therapist. She believes that the thought came during a fleeting swing in emotions.

“Deep down, I don’t think my son would have done this,” she said. “That’s not my son. My son laughs and makes jokes. He’s always pulling pranks.”

If her son does in fact have deep seeded mental issues such as MPD then she has my sympathy however let’s take a look at the evidence.

Police allege that Sammie Chavez attempted to recruit other students Dec. 12 to help him lure people into the school’s auditorium, where he said he would open fire after chaining the doors and placing bombs to detonate when police arrived.

A court affidavit says Chavez used school computers to research pipe bombs and the Columbine High School mass shooting.

Police later seized a Marlin 99 M1 .22-caliber semiautomatic rifle from his home, as well as journals, notes, drawings, photographs of students cut out of a newspaper, two swords, a set of brass knuckles and marijuana.

This sounds far from prank to me.

However this does open the argument about mental healthcare and the rights of the individual in this country. If someone is criminally insane and a potential danger to the public around them there’s not a whole lot anyone can do until that person actually acts on those impulses.

UPDATE 5/14/2013: Speaking of mental illness Chavez has been deemed competent to stand trial.

He’s also pleaded not guilty.

Joe Biden Gun Control Task Force: Committee Member’s Son Served Time For Plotting Columbine-Style Attack:

In the wake of the Newtown tragedy President Obama entrusted Vice President Biden with heading up a gun control task force. Now before you get your hackles up this post is neither about politics nor gun control so save it for your Facebook. Anyway Vice President Biden should have done better screening on some the task force’s members.

One of the members is one Thomas Nee, head of the Boston police union and President of the National Association of Police Organizations. Thomas Nee is also the father of Joe Nee. Nee was convicted back in 2008 for plotting an attack against Marshfield High School in Marshfield, Mass. But wait, it gets better.

Nee wasn’t the first person to be arrested for the plot. That would be Tobin Kerns. Nee himself went to police to implicate Kerns in the plot. It wasn’t until an outcry in the community that Nee was arrested. To this day Tobin Kerns is one of only two people who I believe were unfairly convicted of plotting a school shooting.

As the story goes Nee was a known Columbine sympathizer going as far as wearing a t-shirt with the Columbine cowards Harris and Klebold on it that said remember the heroes. Thomas Nee had even thrown his son out of his house for unknown reasons and was taken in by the Kernses. All the evidence found in the plot was found in the room that Nee was staying in. I’m not going as far to say that Nee received special treatment because of his dad but if it walks like a duck. He even served less time than Kerns.

The last time we heard from Joe Nee he was trying to get his conviction overturned by the Massachusetts Supreme Court. He was not successful. Local rumor had it that Nee was trying to get his conviction overturned so he could become a Boston cop. The same city where his dad just happens to be the head of the police union. Not only would that be blatant nepotism but he would be basically letting a dangerous psychopath into a job where he’s given guns and power. Not the smartest move in the world.

Let’s also not forget about Thomas Nee’s other son Edward Nee. He was arrested back in 2011 for allegedly crashing a party, punching a man in the face, kicking the man while he was on the ground and held a girl by the throat and punched her in the face. At the time of that arrest he was out on bail for allegedly breaking into cars.

My point is how does Tom Nee keep getting these lofty positions when his sons are criminals and he supposedly tried to get one of them on the same police force he works at where he happens to be head of the union? I’m not saying he’s a dirty cop but a lot of his past actions tend to fall on the shady side.

In wake of Friday’s tragedy In Newtown a lot of people were left asking how can a tragedy like this be prevented, in the majority of cases they are. For example on prior to the shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary an 18-year-old named Sammie Chavez was arrested for allegedly plotting a school shooting at Bartlesville High School in Bartlesville, Oklahoma.

Chavez was arrested early Friday morning on charges of threats to kill which is a felony in Oklahoma. According to local police Chavez allegedly tried recruiting others in to assisting in his plot and threatened to shoot them if they did not assist. They say he planned to have the auditorium chained shut then begin shooting then he would detonate bombs when the police arrived. Reports also say that Chavez had told a teacher that he had recently purchased a .45. Other students supposedly told police that they saw Chavez researching Columbine. It’s also been reported that he was trying to obtain diagrams of the school as well.

So while we’re praying and thinking of the victims in Newtown let’s also pray for and thank the countless number of investigators and law enforcement that stop tragedies like Newtown from happening in the first place.

I received the following e-mail from a mutant who was arrested and convicted of plotting to shoot up his school some years ago. Normally I would have no problem posting which mutant it came from but I have redacted his name because it seems to me that he is seeking attention.

Hello Trench, you had mentioned my case a long with my name a few years ago on your web site. I tried to shoot up (school) in (place), and I had friends keeping track of these web sites for me. I was released in 2009, and why it has taken me this long to respond to you I am not sure.. But anyways, I don’t think your any better then the teenagers you frequent on your web site. You’re in your 40′s, calling people mutants.. Sick people at that.. And what I don’t understand is your constant usage of school shootings to promote your boring web site. I guess I would just like to understand that. Some of the so called “mutants” that you post here on your mutated old man web site, are very lost and sick, and cannot find the outlets that are appropriate. I’d like to call you a mutant. You sit and rant on about lost hopeless teenagers with their mostly theoretical school plots.. What kind of life is that? Stop being so harsh. These are kids. Get a life old man.

That was followed up by this Facebook message…

Eww.. Just as I thought.. You are an old nasty man. Probably a pedophile too.. Sent an email to you via your web site regarding my case a few years ago. Check it out.

First off it’s too bad you’re out because it sounds like your ‘incarceration’ had no effect on you whatsoever.

Secondly you’re right. These kids are sick. Not sick in a way that they can be treated but sick in the serial killer way. And don’t give me that crap that these kids have no outlets or resources. Kids today have infinitely more resources and outlets then when I was that age. Which brings me to my next point. When I was in school I was one of these kids. I was an outcast and bullied violently which included concussions, broken bones and a separated shoulder. But where I differ from those kids is that I didn’t obsess over mass murderers and plot to shoot up my school. Things are black and white in my world where no matter how bad things get you don’t turn to killing as a solution. And that’s what’s wrong with a lot of this generation’s kids. They have no moral compass and are so spoiled they think everything is about them. A bunch of selfish emotional marshmallows who resort to cowardly acts of violence instead of using their heads to solve their problems or overcome their shortcomings. As far as school shooting plots being theoretical they are only theoretical until they become school shootings. Luckily the law compensates for that. Don’t want to go to jail? Then don’t plan mass murder.

Lastly, you’re not the first person to call me a pedophile and I doubt you’ll be the last. I won’t say that this is a case of the pot calling the kettle black but it’s usually the pedophiles I post about that call me that. Just sayin’.

I’ve only begun to scratch the surface in reading about this crime but it’s late and quite frankly I think I’ve read enough for now.

22-year-old Trey Sesler of Waller, Texas is accused of shooting and killing his family. His victims were his father, Lawton Ray Sesler, his mother, Rhonda Wyse Sesler, and his 26-year-old brother Mark Sesler. The reason he killed them is because he was allegedly planning at attack against Waller High School and didn’t want his family to be embarrassed for what he was about to do. Luckily police were able to catch up with him before he could unleash his attack on the school.

So why was Sesler planning to attack the school? Oh, I’m sure we’ll hear about how he had some kind of traumatic experience at the school but in my opinion it’s because Sesler is nothing more than a lowly mutant. What’s a mutant you ask? If you haven’t been following my site long it’s the term I use for those who idolize school shooters. It seems that Sesler had an unhealthy obsession with Columbine according to investigators. Not just Columbine though, investigators say that Sesler would research serial killers and grade them on their ‘work’.

I’d be very surprised if the senseless loss of his family and planned attack against the school was nothing more than him paying tribute to his cowardly heroes.

UPDATE 4/10/2012: According to his recent indictment part of Sesler’s alleged motive in killing his family was because his father didn’t like the fact that Sesler had no job and just played video games while living at home. Just another loser blaming others for his own inadequacies.

UPDATE 8/5/2012: Sesler is spared the needle by pleading guilty. He was sentenced to life without parole.

Lakeshore High shooting plot case concludes with teen’s plea to reduced charge:

The last of the Day Zero plotters accused of plotting an attack on Lakeshore High School in Louisiana has pleaded guilty. 16-year-old Daniel Hopkins pleaded true, the juvenile version of guilty, to conspiracy to commit terrorizing. He was basically sentenced to time served. A charge of solicitation of murder was dropped due to insufficient evidence.

I guess this closes the book once and for all on the Lakeshore plot but should it be closed? I mean the mother of the plot’s ringleader, Todd Singleton, allegedly not only deleted the Facebook page where the trio discussed their plans but she also destroyed her son’s computer. Why are tampering or obstruction charges not being filed? Does that not make her an accessory to the crime? How do we expect kids like this to respect the law when the adults in their lives are not only enablers but they’re not being held responsible for their actions.

If more parents were held responsible in matters like this maybe they wouldn’t have the ‘not my kid’ mentality.

2nd Lakeshore High shooting plot suspect pleads to charges:

15-year-old Todd Warren Singleton pleaded guilty today to the juvenile charges against him. Singleton was the so-called ringleader of the Day Zero plot to attack Lakeshore High School in St. Tammany Parish, Louisiana.

He was sentenced to three years in juvenile detention with 20 months suspended and six weeks time served. So all in all he’ll be in detention for roughly over a year.

It was requested that Singleton not have to turn himself in for another two weeks and the judge agreed. While I know it’s Christmas time and all that we are talking about Singleton being supervised by his mother in the meantime. The same woman who allegedly destroyed Singleton’s computer before police could seize it as evidence. I don’t know how much of a good idea this is.

Will he run? I doubt it, but it wouldn’t surprise me.

Trial for Lakeshore High shooting plot suspect postponed:

If you’ve been following the news of the alleged school shooting plot involving Lakeshore High School in Louisiana you’ll know that the suspects used a Facebook page called Zero Day to communicate with each other. You’ll also know that the page was supposedly deleted by one of the suspect’s mothers. Guess what kids. It’s been recovered.

Can I get an ‘Oh Snap’?

Alleged ringleader Todd Singleton was set to go on trial this past week when the news came down that Facebook was able to recover the deleted page. This has pushed back the trial for Singleton and alleged co-conspirator Daniel Hopkins to late December.

Still no word if charges will be brought against Singleton’s mother for allegedly not only deleting the Facebook page but also destroying his computer. That sounds like tampering with evidence to me. Doesn’t that make her an accessory to the crime? If I was the DA I’d be going after her as well.

Lakeshore High shooting plot suspect pleads to charges:

16-year-old Jacob Keller was one of the teens charged with plotting an attack against Lakeshore High School in St. Tammany Parish. He was one of the so-called Day Zero plotters. This past week he pleaded guilty to the juvenile charges against him.

He was sentenced to less than a year in juvenile detention. Keller claimed that he backed out of the plot but asked the remaining plotters “If I don’t go, can you, like, hurt the person?”

I would imagine that he would be banned from the school as well.

Two of three Lakeshore teens make bail:

When I posted about the bond being lowered for the teens accused of plotting an attack against Lakeshore High School in Louisiana I thought that $100K would still be too high for them to post bail. It seems that I was wrong as two of the three plotters have been released on bond.

The families of Todd Singleton and Daniel Hopkins both posted their bond and according to the terms of their bond they’ll both be under house arrest, they’re forbidden from communicating with each other, and they will not be allowed to use cell phones or the internet. EXCEPT that Todd Singleton will be able to use his computer for a computer class while under strict parental supervision. Did the judge not know that one of the parents of Singleton may have destroyed evidence? I would think that would be an important detail. I almost expect Singleton to violate his bond while under parental supervision.

Speaking of destroyed evidence…

Trial delayed in school plot because of missing evidence:

The trial for the three accused teens may be delayed because the Day Zero Facebook page that they allegedly used to plan the attack has been deleted.

It should just be a matter of Facebook getting the information to investigators but I would imagine that Facebook has a lot of subpoenas to go through.

A legal analyst quoted in the article says that Singleton’s mother could be prosecuted for obstruction. By all means they should since she allegedly deleted not only the Facebook page but destroyed her son’s computer. Adults need to be held responsible for when they try to cover up their kids’ crimes which could have led to a bloodbath.
