Milwaukee police nab convicted sex offender in online sting operation:
Dale Lamont Williams
Police in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, have arrested Dale Lamont Williams for allegedly soliciting a 15-year-old boy for sex through craigslist. Police there say that Williams posted an ad on craigslist looking for sex with someone young. When the 15-year-old asked Williams if he was ok with the boy’s age Williams was said to respond with…
“As long as you can carry yourself like an adult when you get here and the vibe is right. I’m cool.”
Williams then instructed the boy on how to get to his residence by bus. It’s always by bus with some creepers.
If you’ve been reading this site for any length of time you should know by now that the 15-year-old boy was actually a detective who is part of Wisconsin’s Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force. It turns out that Williams is a registered sex offender who was wanted in Illinois for failure to register. Wow, another sex offender who re-offended. What are the odds? And he used craigslist too. This story seems so unlikely. Ok, that’s enough sarcasm for now.
It really should come as no surprise that a registered sex offender used craigslist to find his next victim. They know that craigslist itself does nothing to prevent these type of ads from being posted.
Statutory rape conviction gets man 50 years in prison:
Steven Lee Odom
Don’t worry folks. The crime took place in 2009. No one uses MySpace anymore.
Anyway, 26-year-old Steven Lee Odom was sentenced in a Rowan County, North Carolina, court recently to a minimum of 50 years for the statutory rape of a 13-year-old girl when Odom was 21. Creepily, Odom lived across the street from the girl and would watch her get off the school bus. He then began messaging the girl through MySpace and Facebook. That led to Odom having sex (child rape) with the girl.
So why such a long sentence? At the time of the crime Odom was already a registered sex offender. Odom had pleaded guilty to two counts of indecent liberties with a child in neighboring Stanly County. He only received probation for those charges.
A re-offending sex offender? I’m shocked and amazed since they usually tend to be such trustworthy people said no one ever.
Oh well, see you in 2064 if you’re lucky.
Sex offender jailed over online chat attempt with his victim:
This may be a worst case scenario but this is why you don’t leave your wi-fi unprotected.
26-year-old Shawn Piercefield of Indianapolis is a registered sex offender. He’s on probation for felony charges of soliciting a child for sex. As part of his probation he’s not supposed to be on the internet. Then again how many RSOs actually follow their probation guidelines?
During a routine check of his house officers found a cell phone that Piercefield was allegedly using in order to try to contact his victim over the mobile messaging app Kik. With Kik you need an internet connection, either you cell phone’s data connection or wi-fi. Piercefield was said to be using his neighbors wi-fi to try to get to his victim.
By the way that’s a probation violation and back to jail he goes. Maybe if they kept creepers like this in jail in the first place instead of giving them suspended sentences we wouldn’t have as many of these incidents.
Give me that fish!
NC judges: Facebook ban for sex offenders illegal:
Remember how in my last post I said the last time I checked it was illegal to be a registered sex offender in North Carolina to be on a social networking site? Apparently the last time I checked must have been in July because in August the law was struck down as being vague and unconstitutional.
The sex offender ban was put in place back in 2008 and was touted highly by North Carolina Attorney General Roy Cooper. At the time the ban was passed I called it out for what it was, feel good legislation designed to further Roy Cooper’s career rather than catch criminals. I mean the ban could be easily circumvented, not that it didn’t catch a few of what I like to call Dumbfish. The reason I call them Dumbfish is because anyone caught is like a dumb fish that jumps into the net cast by NC authorities.
I don’t like the fact that this gives sex offenders one more avenue to their victims in North Carolina but this law was made to appeal to the shrieking soccer moms during the height of MySpace madness. Not to mention the law didn’t address online predators who weren’t RSO’s.
I’m ashamed to live in a state where this assclown keeps getting re-elected.
UPDATE: A week later Attorney General Cooper was able to persuade the State Supreme Court to keep the sex offender ban in place temporarily.
Repeat sex offender gets 300 months in prison:
Burlington Sex Offender William Flowers Sentenced To 300 Months For Online Coercion, Enticement:
William Todd Flowers
37-year-old William Todd Flowers of Burlington, North Carolina is a registered sex offender. He was busted in 2008 for using MySpace and AIM to solicit sex from a 14-year-old girl who was actually a cop. Then in 2009 he was busted for soliciting a 15-year-old on MySpace. Surprisingly he’s never been featured on this site before.
Now fast forward to June through October of 2012 where he was soliciting minors again on an unnamed social networking site. Not to mention the last time I checked being a sex offender in NC on any social networking site was against the law.
For not learning his lesson Flowers was sentenced last month to 300 months in prison which may not sound like a lot but comes out to 25 years.
Do you think he’ll learn his lesson this time? Nah, me neither.
Woman Sexually Assaulted after Answering Housekeeping Ad in Craigslist:
Sex Offender Attacks Housekeeper:
Police in Cordova, Tennessee recently arrested registered sex offender Arnold Briggs, 55. Briggs allegedly hired a housekeeper from craigslist to clean his cabin in the woods. The victim says that when the cleaning was done Briggs put his hand under her shirt and pants and asked her to stay two more hours for 50 bucks.
Briggs was convicted of sexual battery back in 1987.
It doesn’t matter what kind of business, service or merchandise you’re offering through craigslist, when you do you run a pretty good chance of running into creeps like this. Again it makes me wonder how many times he may have gotten away with this because this sounds like an M.O. rather than a spur of the moment thing.
Desiree Lee Padilla
Harlingen infant porn suspect met sex offender on MocoSpace:
Swiss Miss up there is 22-year-old Desiree Lee Padilla of Harlingen, Texas. She was recently arrested for allegedly sending explicit pictures of an infant girl to a registered sex offender that she met on MocoSpace. Again with Texas and MocoSpace. I have to wonder once again if it’s just being reported more in Texas than any other area.
Anyway, the sex offender in question is 41-year-old James Leland Copeland Jr. who was convicted on child porn charges in Tennessee in 2005. He’s been in and out of prison since. He’s been arrested as well in this case.
Investigators say that Padilla sent pictures of her performing a sex act on an infant girl at Copeland’s request. The articles come out have not said if the girl was Padilla’s daughter.
Unfortunately this is not the uncommon occurrence you may think it is. Over at Bad Breeders there have been a multitude of stories of women who have sent their insignificant others child porn usually involving their own children. I don’t care if the guy was a multi-billionaire who was going to set you up for life on a private island. There is no man or woman out there that’s worth violating a baby for.
Do we as a society think so little of our children anymore?
Undercover H.B. officer thwarts possible sex crime:
In my opinion the Huntington Beach Police Department in California is one of the most proactive law enforcement agencies when it comes to catching sexual predators on craigslist. They’ve been featured on this site many times before and it’s good to see that they’re still being vigilant.
Most recently they arrested 55-year-old Carlton Earl Griner for allegedly placing an ad on craigslist soliciting for sex. He thought he was meeting a 13-year-old girl at a shopping center but the person he was exchanging sexually explicit e-mails with was a Huntington Beach detective. Shopping Centers or malls is the other prerequisite meeting place for creepers like this to meet their victims. Griner is a registered sex offender for having a prior conviction in Iowa on child pornography charges.
While the HBPD may be doing their job in catching this creepers it doesn’t feel like the state is backing them up. While Griner is facing a lifetime on the sex offender registry he’s only looking at 5 years in prison. Obviously the registry wasn’t enough to keep him from offending again.
And once again this shows that craigslist has become the weekly flier for sexual predators shopping for victims.
UPDATE 11/2/2013: Griner was only sentenced to 3 years behind bars. Not even the 5 years he was looking at. What does it take to keep a registered sex offender in California behind bars longer?
Court nixes sentence in Pa. MySpace sex case:
In 2010 a then 33-year-old Michael E. Begin of Bradford, Pennsylvania was arrested for soliciting sex from a 14-year-old girl online. He posed as a 20-year-old Marine sniper who also happened to be of Cherokee descent. When he was arrested at the meeting place he had condoms, handcuffs and a knife in his possession. Last year he was sentenced to 20 years in federal prison.
Now the fake sniper but real predator will be receiving a new sentence…
The 3rd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals says a federal judge didn’t consider arguments from Michael Begin’s defense attorney that the sentence might be unduly harsh.
Unduly harsh? You have got to be kidding me. Investigators put a stop to what could have been the brutal rape, torture and murder of a 14-year-old girl and they want to talk about how a 20 year prison sentence is unduly harsh to a scumbag child predator? At the time of his arrest he was already a registered sex offender for charges of corruption of minors, indecent assault and indecent exposure in 2000.This is just one of the many things that is wrong with our justice system.
With any luck he’ll get an even longer sentence but I doubt that will happen.
Give me that fish!
Judge upholds Indiana Facebook ban for sex offenders:
I didn’t know that Indiana even had a Dumbfish law on the books yet here we are.
Anyway a federal judge upheld Indiana’s law that bans registered sex offenders from Facebook and other social networking sites regardless if they’ve completed their probation or not.
“Social networking, chat rooms, and instant messaging programs have effectively created a ‘virtual playground’ for sexual predators to lurk,” Judge Tanya Walton Pratt wrote in the ruling, citing a 2006 report by the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children that found that one in seven youths had received online sexual solicitations and one in three had been exposed to unwanted sexual material online.
Of course those great defenders of pedophiles known as the ACLU have a problem with this. They plan on appealing the decision naturally. God forbid we should have an internet free of child molesters and rapists.
Again I say though these laws banning sex offenders from social networking are really just feel good legislation designed to garner votes for politicians. Only the dumbest of predators get caught by these laws, as I keep saying, like the dumb fish that jump into the boat.
In reality legislation isn’t needed. Most social sites already ban registered sex offenders from their site but no TOS or law will keep online predators from trying to approach your kids. What we need instead is more tech savvy parents who know how to check on their kids’ internet activity when it be through computer, tablet or phone. Unfortunately more and more parents just let their kids run off on their own on the internet and hope for the best. Politicians don’t want to tell their constituents to be better parents. That wouldn’t get them re-elected.
