Cassie Jo Stoddart
In 2006 16-year-olds Torey Adamcik and Brian Draper brutally stabbed and killed their friend, 16-year-old Cassie Jo Stoddart of Pocatello, Idaho. They even recorded portions of their crime. Again from my first post on Cassie Jo’s murder…
“Just killed Cassie, we just left her house, this is not a f***ing joke,” says Brian Draper on the homemade videotape. “I’m shaking,” replies Adamcik.”I stabbed her in the throat and I saw her lifeless body just disappear,” says Draper.
Both were tried as adults, both were convicted and both were sentenced to life in prison. Another thing they have in common is that they both have sought to receive new trials and so far both of their convictions have been upheld. Now, once again, Adamcik is trying again for a new trial and the reasoning behind it astounds me in its equal parts cruelty and stupidity.
“The theory of the case is that Torey didn’t inflict the fatal wound and due to missteps by the defense, critical evidence that would have supported that theory of the case was excluded,” said Dennis Benjamin, Adamcik’s attorney.
Cassie Jo was stabbed 29 times. So Adamcik’s lawyer is actually arguing that out of the 29 times that she was stabbed his client didn’t administer the stab that killed her. So what were they then, paper cuts, flesh wounds? This is the ultimate insult to not only Cassie Jo’s memory but to her family as well.
Hopefully the courts will see this for the idiocy it is and keep this murdering coward behind bars for the rest of his unnatural life.
I originally posted about Abdullah Alkadi here. He was the 23-year-old student from Cal State-Northridge who went missing after selling his car on craigslist. I was hoping that he would be found alive but sadly that is not the case.
Police say that Abdullah was stabbed to death by 28-year-old Agustin Rosendo Fernandez of Long Beach. Fernandez is said to have killed him in order to steal the car. Fernandez was allegedly in possession of the car at the time of his arrest.
My prayers and condolences go out to the friends and family of Abdullah Alkadi.
I’ll post more as additional details become available and as time allows.
Elytte and Miranda Barbour
Earlier today Elytte and Miranda Barbour both pleaded guilty to the murder of Troy LaFerrara. If you’ll recall the Barbour’s hatched a plan to kill someone by luring them through craigslist with promises of sex. They eventually were able to convince Mr. LaFerrera into their SUV where Elytte Barbour strangled their victim with a cord while Miranda Barbour stabbed him to death.
The pair have pleaded guilty to second-degree homicide. The main difference in Pennsylvania between first and second-degree homicide is that first=degree can get you the death penalty while second-degree limits the sentencing to life in prison. Since Pennsylvania hadn’t executed anyone in quite some time I always thought that the chances of them being sentenced to death were slim even though they probably deserve it.
Sentencing is scheduled for September 18th.
UPDATE 9/20/2014: This past Thursday both Barbours were sentenced to life without parole.
Miranda Barbour: Two men escaped with lives:
Sister: Miranda is a liar:
Elytte and Miranda Barbour
The two stories are unrelated by the way.
In the first story accused Pennsylvania craigslist killer claims that she tried to set up two men before her and idiotically named husband settled for killing Troy LaFerrara. This may actually be true. From what I’ve researched about prostitution and human trafficking a lot of men back out at the last minute before going through with soliciting the services of a pro and Barbour was posing as a prostitute. Whether or not this has any actual bearing on the investigation remains to be seen.
Then on the second story Miranda Barbour’s sister seems to make the family opinion unanimous that Miranda is a lying sack of crap. She says that Miranda’s claim of killing close to two dozen men who ‘deserved it’ comes from the TV show Dexter. For those of you who may be unfamiliar with the show the titular character is a police scientist who is also a serial killer vigilante. If this is the case Barbour wouldn’t be the first criminal to claim something in entertainment as her own.
Choctaw man accused of killing woman and her unborn child to face trial:
Today Joseph Cyr was in an Oklahoma City court and ordered to be held over for trial in the murder of Jaymie Adams. More details of the investigation have been made public but I’m still not convinced of Cyr’s guilt.
Reports have long been saying that police found Cyr’s DNA on Jaymie’s body even though that was not included in the initial autopsy report. Now they’re saying that it was in her body. Since she was advertising herself as a prostitute on craigslist this should not come as a shock. I’m not trying to condemn the victim but that is a fact. That still doesn’t mean that Cyr killed her especially considering the alternative.
Jaymie Adams’ husband, Justin Adams, was originally thought to be her killer and I suppose that is still the case. Unfortunately he’ll never see a day in jail as he pleaded guilty to manslaughter and then walked out of court. Supposedly Adams is going to be a witness for the prosecution. If that’s the case then justice isn’t only blind it’s also brain-damaged, but I digress.
Previously I’ve posted about how Adams had allegedly taken out a life insurance policy on his wife and how he was having an affair. With today’s testimony it gets better.
Today Adams testified that he would normally go with his wife on her calls to make sure she was safe, you know, like most pimps do. Except that night he decided to stay home and watch the kids. How convenient. He also said that this was going to be her last night of hooking. This sounds even more like a made for Lifetime movie.
Could Joseph Cyr be the actual killer? Absolutely. The problem is I have yet to hear what his motive was for killing Jaymie and her unborn child. Justin Adams, on the other hand, had plenty of motive, in my opinion.
If the Oklahoma City police can admit that they allegedly screwed up in investigating Justin Adams how do we know they haven’t screwed up by letting him go?
Miranda’s dad supports daughter’s execution if verdict is guilty:
Elytte and Miranda Barbour
When I last talked about Miranda Barbour and her satanic serial killer claims I said she might actually believe what she’s claiming. I thought that she might be mentally ill. After having read the linked article with her Dad’s interview I’ve done a complete 180 on that position. Sonny Dean says his daughter is a liar and a manipulator because of her heroin addiction which makes a lot of sense now. If you’ve ever lived or are close to a substance abuser you know the depths of lying and manipulation they will go to in order to get their fix and how they would sacrifice friend or family alike if it meant just one more high.
Mr. Dean also said that he believes she was involved in a killing in Alaska but not the 22+ victims she’s claiming. Surprisingly he also said that if his daughter got the death penalty not only would he go to the execution but would hold the hand of Troy LaFerrara’s widow at the execution. While I’m not celebrating the fact that Mr. Dean’s daughter killed another man this is a change of pace of the usual blood is thicker than water thinking we see with most parents.
So in conclusion if she’s so fond of needles the state of Pennsylvania should give her one.
Mother doubts Craigslist killing suspect’s claims:
Elytte and Miranda Barbour
Miranda Barbour’s mother, Elizabeth Dean, lives in North Carolina and was recently interviewed by local media about her 19-year-old daughter’s claim about being a satanic serial killer. Ms. Dean says it’s not likely that her daughter is a serial killer considering how fast Miranda and her husband, Elytte Barbour, were caught for the murder of Troy LaFerrara.
Ms. Dean did have something interesting to say about the cult aspect if things though. She said that while they were living in Alaska that Miranda did join a cult and had a swastika carved in the back of her neck. To me and I’m sure to most people that sounds more like Miranda joined a hate group or gang.
Still, I wouldn’t be surprised if Miranda Barbour had killed before but there is no way that she’s responsible for the murders of the 22 people she claims.
Yesterday I noticed a spike in traffic for this site. These spikes are not uncommon. They usually mean that one of the stories I’ve posted about was featured on a TV show somewhere and the viewers want to find more information about it. Usually it’s about the infamous assault on Victoria Lindsay that the made for TV movie Girl Fight was based on. The only thing was the traffic this time wasn’t about Victoria but about the murder of Jennifer Parks.
For those of you unfamiliar with the story on July 30, 2005 16-year-old Jennifer of Randolph, New Jersey was lured to her death by her next door neighbor Jonathan Zarate. She was beaten and stabbed to death by Zarate and his brother James. James was a bully to Jennifer and with the help of her parents and school and the fact that James Zarate got himself arrested for vandalism he was forced to move away. The murder was in retaliation for James Zarate having to move away. After they brutally stabbed and bludgeoned Jennifer they dismembered her body and stuffed it in a trunk then put the trunk in the back of their parents SUV. The Zarate brothers waited a day before trying to dispose of Jennifer’s body in the Passaic River. A passing police officer caught the brothers before they could. Both Zarate brothers were convicted of Jennifer’s murder and sentenced to life in prison.
Last night I reached out to two dear friends of mine who friends with Jennifer’s mother, Laurie Parks. I asked them if they had heard anything about Jennifer’s story being on TV. They told that yes there was something on TV about on the Investigation Discovery channel. The show is called Deadly Sins with the subtitle of this episode being Good Boys Gone Very Bad. It’s Season 3 Episode 6. We’re cord cutters here in my home but I was able to find the episode for sale on Amazon.
The episode had two stories, the first was about Craig Rabinowitz who murdered his wife Stefanie. I was familiar with that story because I lived in the Philadelphia area at the time. Then came the part about Jennifer. I was not prepared for what I was about to watch.
Now I’ve been watching dramatic crime re-enactments since the days of Unsolved Mysteries and America’s Most Wanted. No re-enactment has ever gotten to me until now. Even though I’ve been blogging about this story for 9 years this episode really showed me just how brutal and senseless Jennifer’s murder was. Even though I know it was just an actress portraying Jennifer to see her thrive and become happy in her life after being rid of her tormentor only to have him and his brother savagely take that away from her and take Jennifer away from her loving family. It was hard for me to watch probably because I’ve communicated with Laurie Parks in the past and have friends who are friends with her.
The episode also had a lot of information that I was unaware of especially about how the Zarate brothers themselves were so violent and mentally disturbed. Also there were some details about Jennifer’s murder that I didn’t know as well that I can’t bring myself to write about.
If you have the ID channel on your service I would recommend catching this episode of Deadly Sins. If you’re like me though you can purchase it on Amazon.
(In the interest of transparency this was an unsolicited post and I receive no financial gain from it.)
BODY COUNT AT 22?:
You remember the happy couple of Elytte and Miranda Barbour don’t you? There the pair who are accused of killing 42-year-old Troy LaFerrara in Sunbury, Pennsylvania after setting up a meeting with him on craigslist. Miranda Barbour allegedly stabbed LaFerrara repeatedly in his vehicle while her husband held basically a garrote around LaFerrara’s throat. The last we heard prosecutors stated that they would be seeking the death penalty for the pair.
Now Mrs. Barbour is back in the news because of a prison interview she gave this past Friday. Now she is claiming that she belonged to a satanic cult and has killed at least 22 people. She claimed that she started killing at 13 when she joined the cult and claims to have had victims in Alaska, North Carolina, Texas and California. Before everyone is proclaiming her the next Ted Bundy let’s look at the facts. If what she says is true that would make her the most stealthy serial killer ever and the most prolific female serial killer in the US. She would have to have killed these 22+ people in 5 years. Statistically female serial killers are more of the black widow type resorting to means that don’t get their hands dirty such as poisoning. Could she be a statistical anomaly? It’s possible but I don’t think it’s lightly. The real problem is I think she believes what she’s saying.
She had a messed up childhood. She was molested at the age of 4 by a relative who spent 14 years in jail for it. That could mess with anyone mentally. Do I think it was to the point that she engaged on a multi-state killing endeavor? No. LaFerrara may not have been her first kill but I doubt there’s as many bodies as she claims. Should we take pity on her? I don’t know. Ten years ago I would have said fry the bitch but I’ve gotten softer in my old age. If’s she’s genuinely insane and was used by Elytte Barbour (You don’t know how much I hate that name) as his instrument of murder then I think she should be spared the death penalty although she should never see the light of day again. Hubby should be executed just on that name alone.
Miranda Barbour says she plans on pleading guilty to LaFerrara’s murder.
Justin Adams pleads guilty, walks free in death of wife, unborn child:
Justin Adams pleads guilty, sentenced in wife’s death:
Justin Adams Pleads Guilty In Deaths Of Pregnant Wife, Unborn Child:
A grave injustice occurred today. Justin Adams pleaded guilty to manslaughter charges in the death of his wife Jaymie Adams and their unborn child. Jaymie was a prostitute being pimped out by her husband and was found stabbed to death in Oklahoma City. Early reports seemed to indicate that Justin Adams was the culprit especially considering that he took out an insurance policy on his wife and was allegedly having an affair. Leaving out the whole part about his alibi being questionable at best.
Then all off a sudden police turned their attention to Joseph Cyr. Reports have said Cyr was one of Jaymie’s customers who met her the night she died. They also say that Cyr’s DNA was found on Jaymie even though the coroner’s report mentions no such thing.
In case you couldn’t tell I think Adams is the killer and Cyr is innocent.
When Adams was the suspect the police couldn’t keep their mouth shut about all the evidence they had on him. Now with Cyr all they say is they have his DNA but I have yet to hear any conclusive evidence that indicates that Cyr had any reason for killing Jaymie.
Now thanks to double jeopardy Justin Adams will never serve a day for a murder I believe he committed.
Thanks to Hanna for the tip.
