The death of 18-year-old Aprina Paul of Fitchburg, Wisconsin has been a strange one. Her burnt body was found in the fire pit of then 29-year-old Nathan Middleton. He claims that he met her through craigslist after offering weed in exchange for sex. He also claims that Aprina died of some kind of overdose from an unknown drug that he didn’t supply to her. He said he burnt her body because he was on probation and didn’t want to go back to jail. He ended up pleading guilty to hiding a corpse and mutilating a corpse and was sentenced to 22 1/2 years behind bars but was never charged with her murder. Due to the state of her remains police were never able to determine a cause of death.
Now recently the mother of Aprina Paul has received a letter by someone claiming to be Middleton. In it the letter writer states that he did not kill Aprina but another man did. Authorities aren’t saying who the other man is but they say that he was cleared in their investigation.
I wouldn’t be surprised if the letters did turn out to be from Middleton. He seems like a pathological liar to me. He lied to his fiance and convinced her to help him build the fire he used to burn Aprina’s body. I’m sure he’s lying to everyone about not killing her but he got lucky that there was no usable evidence and now he’s pushing his luck to see if he can get anyone to believe him about the ‘real killer’. My guess would be he’s trying to angle some kind of reduced sentencing. It also makes me wonder if he thinks police are getting closer to the truth.
Nice try OJ but no one is buying it.
UPDATE 10/25/2014: The Wisconsin Department of Corrections has confirmed that the letter was in fact sent from Nathan Middleton.
Brandon M. Amato
Whenever I hear tech journalists and other denizens of the Silicon Valley echo chamber talk about Snapchat they always say the same thing. “Snapchat isn’t used for sexting. It’s used by kids to send goofy pictures to their friends”. That may be true but it’s not stopping predators from sending inappropriate pictures to your kids.
For those of you who may not know Snapchat is a smartphone app that allows users to send pictures to each other that supposedly disappear after 10 seconds. However that isn’t always the case.
Getting back to the predator thing today’s contestant is 24-year-old Brandon M. Amato of Madison, Wisconsin. He’s a former high school teacher who allegedly sent pictures of his junk to two underage female students of his former school through Snapchat, one that 17-years-old and another that was 16.
Amatao is not the first teacher profiled on this site that was caught using Snapchat inappropriately. BY my count he’s the fourth. Not a huge number but why does Snapchat seem to be popular among teacher creepers?
Unless it’s through some school approved channels no student should ever be social network friends with a teacher. It gives a very bad image of the teacher.
Steven A. Bahr
I really wanted to use one of those “You won’t believe what happened next” type of headlines because I think this something that all parents and kids need to see. However I refuse to stoop to those levels.
Anyway, 31-year-old Steven A. Bahr of Sheboygan, Wisconsin is accused of sexually assaulting a 15-year-old girl after she posted a pic of herself on Snapchat. For those of you who may not know Snapchat is a smartphone app where the picture someone takes is supposed to disappear after a certain amount of time, usually within seconds.
Reports say that the girl sent out a picture of herself at a local supermarket. Bahr allegedly replied to the photo asking if she wanted to ‘chill’. Bahr is said to have driven up to the girl and asked her to get in. When she refused Bahr supposedly grabbed the girl by the arm and put her in his truck. They made several stops before getting to Bahr’s place but the victim said she was afraid to ask for help. The alleged assault took place at Bahr’s residence. The girl reportedly said she was 17 on Snapchat but told Bahr that she was 15 before the assault took place.
Usually I’m not one to have problems with a victims story but I have a problem with this one. The first is that I thought someone had to be on your friends list to see your Snapchat pictures. (Please correct me if I’m wrong about that.) Was Bahr on hers? Secondly the fact that she lied about her age and didn’t ask for help during any stops make me wonder IF she voluntarily went with Bahr.
HOWEVER none of that matters because of one thing, the age of consent in Wisconsin is 18. 17, let alone 15, is well out of range of a 31-year-old man.
So parents, once again I say to you check your kids’ phones for this app. If they have it make sure you know who everyone on their friends list is. If you feel that your child should not have an app like Snapchat take steps to have it removed and blocked from the phone. I’m sure you don’t your child getting into the truck of a man in his 30s alone.
If you’ve read any of my previous posts about the website Omegle then you know it’s an ‘anonymous’ webcam chat site whose motto is “Talk to strangers.” Apparently you can talk to pedophiles too as there have been instances of suspects trading child porn on Omegle. Since there are no user accounts or user names on Omegle are pedophiles going on there looking for other pedophiles to trade child porn with? You can’t post any kind of file on Omegle either so who is hosting the child porn they’re trading?
Anyway we have another suspect who allegedly posted child porn on Omegle and he is 31-year-old Steven Capuzzi of Madison, Wisconsin. Like in previous stories Omegle sent tips to the National Center for Missing and Exploited children who in turn contacted authorities. So while Omegle may not be the most morally ethical site on the internet they’re at least trying to keep their own yard free of trash. So let that be a warning to the predators and child porn traders on Omegle, they are very willing to turn you in and you’re not as anonymous as you might think.
And again to parents this is a website to keep your eye out for. Underage kids should not be on this website and as I’ve said before they really shouldn’t have a webcam either. Letting your kids use a webcam is just like opening a window to the all the scum on the internet.
I can’t do every craigslist creeper story anymore because there are just too many of them. Every once in a while though, it only takes a mugshot to make me stop and post one of those stories. For example take 51-year-old Jeff Beckman of Rosholt, Wisconsin. Have you ever heard the expression ‘don’t get your nose bent out of shape’? It looks like he did.
Anyway, Beckman has recently pleaded not guilty to child solicitation and child porn charges. Police in nearby Marathon County say that Beckman allegedly responded to a craigslist ad they placed posing as someone peddling children. They say that Beckman was willing to pay $60 to have sex with three children, ages 12, 14, and 15. Police later found child porn while searching his home.
Yet as a society we’re still apathetic towards getting craigslist to monitor their own yard. I wonder if the ad the police placed was even flagged by anyone on their local craigslist. Somehow I doubt that it was.
Milwaukee police nab convicted sex offender in online sting operation:
Dale Lamont Williams
Police in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, have arrested Dale Lamont Williams for allegedly soliciting a 15-year-old boy for sex through craigslist. Police there say that Williams posted an ad on craigslist looking for sex with someone young. When the 15-year-old asked Williams if he was ok with the boy’s age Williams was said to respond with…
“As long as you can carry yourself like an adult when you get here and the vibe is right. I’m cool.”
Williams then instructed the boy on how to get to his residence by bus. It’s always by bus with some creepers.
If you’ve been reading this site for any length of time you should know by now that the 15-year-old boy was actually a detective who is part of Wisconsin’s Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force. It turns out that Williams is a registered sex offender who was wanted in Illinois for failure to register. Wow, another sex offender who re-offended. What are the odds? And he used craigslist too. This story seems so unlikely. Ok, that’s enough sarcasm for now.
It really should come as no surprise that a registered sex offender used craigslist to find his next victim. They know that craigslist itself does nothing to prevent these type of ads from being posted.
Evansville man pleads guilty on charges related to death of Aprina Paul:
I originally posted about the death of Aprina Paul here. She died back in October of an alleged overdose after responding to the craigslist ad of 30-year-old Nathan Middleton who was offering weed for sex. Middleton claimed he panicked when he found her dead and burnt her body beyond recognition in his backyard fire pit since he was a felon on parole.
Recently Middleton of Evansville, Wisconsin, pleaded guilty to hiding a corpse and mutilating a corpse. He has not been charged with Aprina Paul’s murder because it seems that he was actually really thorough in the burning of her body…
Rock County Sheriff Bob Spoden said the guilty pleas did little to ease his frustrations with the case. Middleton burned Paul’s body so thoroughly and covered his tracks so well that sheriff’s detectives, the state crime lab and other agencies have not uncovered any evidence that would lead to more serious charges , he added.
“I believe that he was involved in her death, I believed he covered up the crime,” Spoden said. “We’re not giving up on this, but we’re realistic.”
Middleton is still looking at a max of 32 years behind bars and maybe a scientific miracle will occur and they’ll actually be able to pin her death on him but don’t hold your breath.
The more shady the transaction appears to be on craigslist the more likely it can be for harm to come to you.
UPDATE 6/25/2014: Middleton was sentenced to 22 1/2 years behind bars.
Man, 19, charged with sending inappropriate photos of himself to girl, 12:
19-year-old Brandon M. Schallock of Juneau, Wisconsin, is accused of sending a picture of his junk to a 12-year-old girl over the ‘temporary’ photo sharing app Snapchat. Now usually when that happens it takes a while for someone of any authority to find out usually because the suspect has groomed the victim into some kind of twisted relationship. Not here.
After receiving the photo, the girl said she sent back a message stating “not cool” and blocked Schallock from messaging her.
Nice. There’s only one thing I can add to that.
Woman Sexually Assaulted Responding to Craigslist Ad:
Man charged in sexual assault after placing babysitting ad:
24 year-old Tyler Olson of Green Bay, Wisconsin, has been charged with the alleged sexual assault of a 20-year-old woman he met through craigslist. Actually it sounds a lot like rape to me but apparently that’s taboo to use in a headline these days.
Anyway police say that Olson placed an ad on craigslist looking for a baby sitter. The victim responded to the ad and went to Olson’s home. Once inside Olson is said to have pulled a knife on her then sexually assaulted her.
It’s only by chance that were probably not talking about another craigslist killing. Olson forced the woman to derive him around but they ran out of gas and were spotted by Green Bay police. The woman was able to ask the officer for help while Olson fled. He’s been locked up and is being held on $100,000 bond.
Again it doesn’t matter how innocuous a craigslist ad may be you never know what kind of monster is waiting on the other side of it.
Craigslist ad for sex led to Wisconsin teen’s death, documents show:
No charges, so far, in death of Aprina Paul:
I can’t call it a craigslist killing yet since no murder charges have been filed yet but it doesn’t make the story any less disturbing.
The burnt remains of 18-year-old Aprina Paul of Fitchburg, Wisconsin have allegedly been discovered in a backyard fire pit. That backyard belongs to one 29-year-old Nathan Middleton of Porter, Wisconsin.
Middleton has allegedly admitted to police that Aprina died at his house but says not by his hand. He claims that she died of a drug overdose. Middleton says that he met Aprina after she supposedly responded to his ad that seems to have proposed a kind of sex for weed deal. Middleton had the weed and wanted the sex even though he’s engaged. What this mystery drug is that Aprina is said to have OD’d on is unknown because Middleton says all they did was smoke weed. He claims that he woke up the next day to her not breathing.
So why was her body burnt? Police say that Middleton admitted to burning her body by creating a giant fire pit in his back yard. He sent his fiance to get ingredients for s’mores while he started the burning of her body. He even had his fiance help him tend the fire. Neighbors say that the flames reached to about 8 feet high.
If this story sounds familiar it’s because it sounds a lot like the death of Donna Jou. She met John Steven Burgess on craigslist and he says that Donna died from a heroin overdose. The world may never know the truth in that situation because Burgess claims he threw Donna’s body in the Pacific Ocean.
As one of the articles mentions Middleton has not been charged with murder yet. He’s being held for violating probation. So far police have no evidence to dispute Middleton’s claims and it wouldn’t be the first time someone has committed an atrocity to stay out of prison. However this doesn’t seem like all there is to the story. At the very least I wouldn’t be surprised if Middleton supplied her with the drug she OD’d on which makes me wonder if the delivery of said drug was to a willing participant or not.
In case you’re wondering pot is still illegal in Wisconsin which leads me to believe that if craigslist actually moderated their site Middleton’s ad would have never seen the light of day.
UPDATE 11/14/2013: Middleton has been arrested once again. This time he’s been charged with hiding a corpse, mutilating a corpse and failure to notify the coroner of a death. Still no murder charges have been filed yet.
